color cordinating- who does and who doesnt?
Comments (34)I always do color (and texture, and shapes...) schemes in my -and others- garden. And no colour is out of my palette, even bright and vibrant yellows, reds and oranges. Contrasts should be important too, because pale colour schemes, and especially one-only colour schemes, are prone to become boring and featurless if not really well composed. By the way, color can be important when you have limited space available, and many Roses to grow togheter :o)) - right color combinations are able to enhance the beauty of each rose and set off their puculiar qualities at the best. I do love especially to put togheter two climbing or rambling roses, both in color blend or in contrast: for instance, I have 'Belle Portugaise' and 'Clg. Cramoisi Supérieur' on an Olive tree, 'Purezza' with 'Cooper Burmese' (same color, very different shape) on the working shed roof A blend of 'Lamarque' and 'Jaune Desprez' in early October at the edge of the "white and blue" garden Just a few more pictures on the subject 'Le Vésuve' and 'Archiduc Joseph/Monsieur Tillier', this is a part of a larger and complex color scheme with grey and purple leaved plants, salmon, pale orange / coppery tones, and a few bright pink spots. 'Sally Holmes' and "Lady Plymouth" (ID questioned, probably a compact clone of 'Lady Hillingdon') in a scheme of white, light yellow buff, grey and light blue Ciao! Comments (19)Been there and done that and it was a lot of work and expense and I only had 211 seedlings. On the upside there is no one more ruthless than me when it comes to judging seedlings. Bad foilage, gone. Won't open on cool mornings, gone. Melts in the heat, gone. Fades to an ugly color at night, gone. I am a firm believer that there are way too many daylilies out there that have nothing to offer as far as registering them goes and you have to wonder how the heck they got there in the first place. Our town has green recycling and that is the perfect place for plants that aren't an improvement on their parents. For everyone who feels that I am a monster for not loving "my babies" keep in mind that they are just plants and if they are recycled as compost they have served a better purpose than planting an inferior product. No more hybridizing for me!!!!!!! JoAnn...See MoreRemodel - Hire GC or sub myself? Who does what?
Comments (8)My brother is a plumber and I'm always stunned by the projects he takes on -I keep telling him, "Wow, I never would have thought a plumber did all that." In a sense, he sometimes acts a general contractor. So for example, he could arrange for you to get frameless shower doors, demo an old tub, order and install a new one, order and install faucets, vanities(although he does not do granite or marble tops). He even arranges for painters etc. to do their part. Now of course, if he's on the hook for these, he's adding a markup, so I guess that's the rub. Having someone else manage the process comes with a pricetag. We are working on facelifts for three baths right now, so I called our local plumber (who I love -my brother is 2000 miles away!), and sure enough he too could handle the entire project. I asked him to ballpark portions of the project for me, which he did. I then went and checked things out myself. On the frameless shower, for example, he told me about $2000. I went to a local glass place, and found I could do it for $1500, so am doing it myself. And I've ended up buying the faucets, tubs, countertops, etc. myself too because I could do so much better $$$ wise. I'm having a granite guy install the countertops then will have the plumber come out and install all the faucets the next day. So you might start with a good, local plumber, see what parts he can handle, and then check his references for a similar project. Lynn...See MoreGC who does it all?
Comments (7)I prefer using a GC for everything but didn't have that luxury. Just make sure that his people has all the licenses like Joseph said. The GC i used has subs that didn't have electrical licenses and I had to spend extra money with an electrician to fix mistakes. They weren't code mistakes but choices mistakes that ended up not working for my new appliances. I had to fire him and became my own GC....See Morejckgmk
