Comments (44)"It's annoying for you to insist that just because it's not how you do something that it's not an acceptable method, when so clearly it is for so many people, including professionals." reno The way I do it has nothing to do with it. It is an industry standard not to paint over wallpaper. You seem to believe that anything goes at all times and that there are no standards or recommended methods. But that simply is not true. You, me and anyone else here don't create standards and recommended methods. And just because you and some other people here have painted over wallpaper doesn't mean that it is an equally acceptable method. And you can pay businesses to do lots of things including substandard work. When a topic like this is brought up, I try to convey the accepted industry standard. Even if people do end up painting over wallpaper, at least they have the proper information to make that decision. I feel you mislead people by telling them that painting over wallpaper is equally acceptable without also warning them of all of the potential problems. I find it annoying that you keep insisting that there are no industry standards and recommended methods. This isn't an issue of personal opinion like you keep trying to say....See MoreNeed Decor Advice for New Home Living/Dining Room
Comments (5)I would suggest a much larger and more colorful rug for the sitting area. Your TV setup looks awkward and unattractive. Can it be changed somehow? I would paint the brick wall in the dining room the same color as the other walls to open up the whole space. I would remove that large mirror and put a smaller painting there and also remove the tall bookcase(?) near the couch which adds nothing to the decor. The mantle should be cleared and some much larger items placed there. I don't know how you feel about painting the fireplace the same color as the wall, but that would also make the room look more cohesive and spacious. I'm afraid the ceiling lamp by the front door looks too small and droopy to have any impact. You need something much larger that has a greater presence. Another thing to consider is white blinds instead of brown ones on each side of the fireplace. Again this will open up the room. I would remove that small table to the right of the TV with the little lamp and put a great-looking floor lamp there. Is there some way you can do without the bulky ottoman? I think that's one reason that area looks so crowded. I would think about replacing it with a small but sturdy glass and metal coffee table through which you can see the rug, giving the illusion that there is almost nothing there. Hope I haven't overloaded you with too many ideas. It's your home and you can do whatever seems right to you. Comments (3)That table is far too large for the room, sorry - I know you just bought it. Your room would lend itself better to a 54" to 60" round table. Suggest you put that table back on Facebook Marketplace and go that direction. Over-crowded dining rooms never look good....See Moredoes a foyer need to flow with the main floor decor?
Comments (17)IMO mirrors need to reflect something worth seeing twice or they're useful tools in a foyer to check yourself before leaving the house. Carolyn Oliver, Your foyer has walls that clearly delineate it from other rooms, so having something different would be fine! Just make sure it still ties in with the overall decor theme. I'd suggest wallpaper in a fun pattern but keep it in a color scheme that compliments the surrounding rooms. So maybe like gold/silver, grey or beige....See MoreUser
