Need help decorating a 2 story foyer.
Comments (26)The demilune table you have is very nice for the spot. Don't make the mistake of thinking you need to fill the whole wall just because it's tall. Try to keep things in proportion and remember to "decorate where you live". That means hanging artwork, mirrors, etc. as if your ceilings were 8 or 9 feet tall. Whatever you hang over your entry table should be about 2/3 to 3/4 the width of the table and no taller than the height of your door frames. I know it seems like there's going to be a lot of empty space, but that's okay. I moved from a 1949 cape with 7 1/2 foot ceilings to a house with 11' vaulted ceilings and had to learn that things really do look better hung at normal height. The current chandelier seems to be well proportioned for the space and hung at the right height. When you replace it, try to stay to something in that same size range. Congratulations on your new home!...See MoreNeed help with paint and decorating our new main floor!
Comments (7)The best way to find the right color of gray for your walls is to go to BM, SW, or Behr's paint websites since they all have virtual rooms you can paint and try out new colors. Once you find one or more that you like, I suggest buying samples of each paint color you like and painting a good sized section of each color on the wall of the room you will be using them in. Look at the color or colors for at least 2 or 3 days to determine if they will work, looking at them in both sunny and cloudy days along with the lamps and lighting you will use in the room at night. I do love the color of the dining room! BTW - I have 3 shades of gray now in my house! I only use Behr paints and my foyer and living room are painted with Classic Gray (medium gray); Dark Pewter for my bedroom (I wanted a darker bedroom); and Sterling for my hallway, which is a light silvery gray....See MoreHelp me decorate this square foyer!
Comments (15)What do you need in the entry? Is this a place where you come through everyday from the outside and leave from or is it just guests that enter? Do you walk through here several times a day to get to the other rooms from other areas of the house? I like things to function and if you walk through here several times a day then having something in the middle might be in the way. If you like the idea of a table in the center try putting a box about the size of the table to test it out. If this is your main entry having somewhere to sit might be nice if you remove/put on shoes in this area. I think a rug that doesn't compete with the artwork is a good suggestion. One other thing I would consider is changing the light bulb to something less yellow looking. I think it will help how your artwork looks too. If a table or something in the middle is not an option then maybe a table or a bench below the artwork. It looks to me like you have space for some smaller pieces on the side walls on each side of the openings. Maybe put a planter with a large plant in it fake or real, just make sure if it is real that it can tolerate low light conditions....See Morefoyer decor.. curved wall
Comments (16)I would not even bother painting. We lived in a basement bedroom while we renovated a whole house it became kind of like camping after a while we gutted and redis the whole house and did all the work except for the rewiring and plumbing. The house was a 1905 and needed good bones before anything else . My suggestion is right now do not do anything for the foyer since that will be ahuge traffic area when you start this job. I also suggest you have all the bones checked and get a good interior designer ( I am one BTW) since you will find this a huge undertaking and you need a PLAN. My first question would be how soon are you planning to start?...See MoreDiana Bier Interiors, LLC
