Need help putting this tiny kitchen reno together (pics)
Comments (31)johnatemp, ty so much for the tips. I'm going to copy this and save for DH. He'll need all the help he can get when coming time to paint :) kmc, I really do love the antique what. I just wonder what it'd look like with my bright white trim. rose, I'd love if lowes or someone here would offer making us a template, but I asked. They said they'd only do that if THEY were installing. I even offered to pay them to come double check measurements, and they said nope. I did find a local company yesterday. They claim the starting price for their laminate WITH install is $8.50. Goes up to $9 something, depending on the edge. And just $6.50, if I wanted them to just slap some new laminate on my existing counter tops. I actually talked to two smaller companys, both were about the same. Sooo..we'll see what kind of estimate I get. Both are coming out next wk. I just know I don't want to pay the $1400 for laminate that Lowes priced us at. And I know painting the cabs may be a turn off for some. But, I can't live with them any more. I really can't, lol. I've consulted my realtor, as well. She knows the area, the neighborhood, the block, my house AND my cabs, lol. And she says go for it. She thinks if I can pull it off, it'll only help set ourselves apart from the rest of cookie cutter land :)...See MoreOutdoor Kitchen - grill help? surprising my DH...
Comments (16)We researched grills for a year before we bought, and basically thought Weber is the best in that price range (didn't think the high-end grills were that much better or would get that much more use to justify going up to that level, in the multiple thousands, even though we did splurge on high-end indoor appliances) Our previous grill was a Weber that lasted about 12 years before it finally rusted apart - but it still worked! We had it propped up for months before we gave it up. Of course we use the grill often where we are only grilling the meat and the rest of the meal is indoors. We use the side burner pretty much every time we plan to eat outside for whatever the side dish is (beans, vegetable, rice, whatever) - prep inside and cook it outside. We also use the rotisserie pretty regularly for chicken and pork roasts. We always have a spare full propane tank handy. The next door neighbor just changed it out last night while he was cooking his dinner, and you're going to think this is crazy, but we took down the fence and we share the giant grill and tiki hut with our neighbors. The arrangement works beautifully....See MoreKitchen Reno Cont’d: Ideas/Suggestions/Help Please!
Comments (24)benjesbride, thank you for the suggestions – I appreciate all ideas. I should have included an earlier render of the layout in the TV room (including the largest double recliner we’ve found but not purchased). I’ve added it below. To give DH his dedicated coffee making area, buehl put a coffee bar in the tv room, suggesting we make it a combo snack bar (love this). Yes, this room is for TV viewing only, but also works as a small man-cave (other than the coffee bar) – we have another tv in the Great Room. We’re going with a double recliner because: We don’t entertain - it’s just the 2 of us; Not there now, but as we age, circulation issues may arise, so legs/feet in elevated position; Wish to make this room about comfort for DH, thus, a (double) recliner. In the current location below: the recliner won’t obstruct the passthrough view as it sits lower in both positions. It’s the perfect location – I can easily see DH and talk to him at the passthrough (or close it off for noise buffer)! This is DH’s dedicated room, and he loves the ‘vintage industrial’ look, so we are building the tv/coffee-snack bar as a large cabinet. I built furniture, refinished antiques, and was a decent woodworker 2 decades ago, so have experience, and DH can build pretty much anything mechanical/metal. We intend (for now, plans change!) to go with a distressed copper countertop to make the coffee bar masculine/bar-like for DH, add shelving to display his man-tiques (masculine antiques/collection), enclose the mini fridge, snack, and bean storage areas, and I’ll refine some of the industrial look to go with our whole-house décor. As you wisely mentioned, that’ll be a narrow room and I’ve been very concerned about this. We’d marked it off with painter’s tape, but that’s not adequate. Last weekend we brought a large (temporary) sofa from storage to the room, got his huge tv hooked up, and have loved the set-up! The distance is perfect: no scanning the tv (moving eyes side to side for complete viewing), and in the reclined position, the higher position of the tv will also be perfect. We’ll build vintage wall lights at each side of the recliner. cpartist suggested a mantlemount, and we are keeping this option in mind to raise and lower the tv. Later, when all is done, we’ll decide if we have room to add simple seating if DH wishes to have a hangout area with more than 1 friend at a time… as well as more wall display areas. Tho’ I love the idea of a window to view the herb garden, windows aren’t conducive to tv viewing (on weekends during daytime sports). If you see any flaws in what I’ve described, please point them out to me! Thanks!...See MoreBrainstorming ideas for Kitchen Reno in Vineyard
Comments (13)lukkiirish The blob in the dining room represents a buffet/serving table We are now anticipating a budget of 40K- but we won't know for sure before January. We were considering putting our 2 rounded curio cabinets on either side of window rather than the brown blob/buffet. Behind the stove is a wet bar in the living room- our next update project. In the entryway hallway is a tiny powder room that butts up behind the sink of the bar. Fireplace is in the family room (click to see) which we plan to change out for stand alone in corner by windows - and doing something creative with the niche/bookcase/fireplace area- another project down the road. Their buffet is turned diagonally- entry into kitchen shown Wet bar behind kitchen (updating this will be next project): Husband wants pool table where sofa/coffee table are (placed at diagonal for more playing space?) and chess table where side table This is the dining room furniture we plan to bring: 2 curios do fit on either side of picture (what would be the window in new house) 2 rounded curios Linen chest:...See More2ManyDiversions
