Cordless stick blender, anyone?

Has anyone had a chance to try the Breville or Cuisinart cordless immersion blenders?

I have a friend who's considering Prius camping for several months who asked if I knew anything about it. I didn't even know that living in a Prius was a Thing, but it's been interesting learning about how people cook out of one.

Actually, Full discharge of Li-ion batteries is not advisable:

"--4: Avoid completely discharging lithium-ion batteries

If a lithium-ion battery is discharged below 2.5 volts per cell, a safety circuit built into the battery opens and the battery appears to be dead. The original charger will be of no use. Only battery analyzers with the boost function have a chance of recharging the battery.

Also, for safety reasons, do not recharge deeply discharged lithium-ion batteries if they have been stored in that condition for several months.--"

I had a Cuisinart cordless blender and hated it. It only had one speed, very little power, and the battery became unchargeable after a while. They may have improved them since then, but I am still avoiding them.

I suppose if you are camping, it might be useful, but that would be the only case - except for power outage. You still have to plug them in to keep them charged, and mine ran out of charge rather quickly.

I've had various ones and most worked for a long time. This last time I dropped, cracked and broke mine and wanted another one soon. Christy happened to go to CVS that day and saw this $5 one, figuring it would work until he maybe got me another good one. That was last spring and it's still going strong.lol. I have a monster Kitchen Aid one that I got because of reviews and because it seemed longer than all the others; I wanted it to be able to work in tall stock pots cause I initially bought if for making homemade cold-processed soap. It did an AMAZING job for that but for all cooking purposes too. Gets things done very quickly cause it's so powerful (has cord too) but it's pretty quiet too. A couple of weeks ago I made mashed potatoes with it cause my electric hand mixer broke. I couldn't believe I've been using a typical mixer all these years when I could have been using the stick blender! What's funny is that I have a potato ricer to get mashed potatoes extra smooth and creamy, and it's kind of a hassle but a nice effect/texture. With the stick blender, in way less time, I had that same creamy smooth texture. All the big brands will be good I'm sure but I recommend you get one that's tall enough in case the gift-recipient uses tall pots!

Thanks for the Braun suggestion, eam44. That's interesting, because I often cook in a kitchen where they have an older corded Braun, and that's the feeblest stick blender I've ever used, really almost useless. But it's at least ten years old. It took up a lot of room, keeping it charged Anglophilia, I guess they've changed, because one reason they're considering the cuisinart is that it just has a removable power cord for charging instead of a big charging base like, say, the Breville. Do you have a cordless KitchenAid, Mrs. Pete? I didn't know they made one. I have the regular corded KA older model and it's absolutely wonderful.

Cordless tools have seen a lot of advances in recent years. Thanks to cell phones and electric cars, RC (radio controlled) toys (drones), battery and motor technologies are very much improved.

At this point you can find extremely useful cordless electric tools. Today most of the power tools construction contractors use are cordless.

Many of my tools in my shop and garden are cordless. I just bought a cordless leaf blower that is more powerful than one powered by a gas engine.

If my regular blender dies, I would probably look for a cordless one.

BTW, alway look for one that is powered by Lithium-ion batteries.

And discharge the battery completely on occasion before recharging.lithium ion battery

Thanks, dcarch and linda. Linda, I thought newer batteries didn't require that anymore? Anyway, since most of the blenders I've looked at have a max of 20 min blend time before recharging it wouldn't be hard to do.
