Comments (7)Oh my. What is a passionate rose lover like you doing in that glacial hell hole? Reading about your endeavors has exhausted me and I haven't even lifted a shovel. I admire your grit and determination, but would love to see you rewarded with thousands of blooms on your rose bushes for all your hard work. I bet they could use engineers in zones 7 to 10!...See MoreHelp With Kitchen (Newly Purchased Home)
Comments (18)The biggest problem is going to be the handles since they can't be removed. You could paint the cabs, glue on beadboard, or cover with a vinyl beadboard wallpaper everyone will think is the real deal . You can leave the wallpaper white or paint/glaze, with the glaze catching in all the groves, giving more dimension. If you want to go a step futher, glue strips of wood(2" trim) on all 4 sides, but dealing with the handles isn't going to be easy~to make it easier, go around the handle with the wood trim. It's a little bit of work, but would give an updated 'look' until you decide to do something more. As for a wall color, a sage green with black accessories and light fixtures(faux wrought iron)would be pretty~I purchased brand new in the box at my local Habitat for Humanity, a 5 arm and a 3 arm for $25. Check to see if you have one near you. A couple of containers of red geraniums on or under the window sill for a splash of color. Comments (46)That really looks nice Buehl. As a former IT pro, it amazes me how much I still prefer to do via paper, including layouts. I think due to costs among other reasons, I'll stick with having the one wall done now and maybe add/update cabinetry on the other walls before sale time (quite a few years from now). I'm still leaning towards IKEA cabs since their product should be around during the next 10 years. Also, since we have several nearby IKEAs, the tenants can buy all the IKEA interior drawer organizers themselves...on their dime. (I am glad they no longer plaster 'IKEA' all over the little hinge covers as in the early days). next I'll need to pull together flooring (vinyl planks?), countertop (Formica/laminate) and backsplash colors (something modern/contemporary). Going with IKEA shaker style cabs, I think...I'm never sure of my choices. This rental update has to be budget friendly; i'll start a new thread. please don't desert me now! I'm heading into the details and here's where I *always* seem to 'crash and burn' in my choices and then by the time the project is done, I hate the results. Please spoon-feed me. Haha!...See MoreHelp with 70's ski chalet kitchen remodel
Comments (22)Annette, thanks for the heads up :-) There is 2'11" from the window trim to the hallway tile. The window is a vertical slider, right to left. On the DW between the sink and the cooktop issue, I wonder if that would be so problematic if I had that peninsula with an additional, prep sink in it? I would think it would then be an asset to have the DW close to the cooktop for direct to DW 'clean as you go' flow? Stuff comes out of prep bowls/plates into the frypan/pot and the bowl is then just dropped in the DW( no doubt real cooks are going to find this sentence hilarious!) If water is needed while the DW is being loaded by someone from the clean-up sink, no problem for the cook to just pivot around to the prep sink?...See MoreRelated Professionals
