My feeling is a master suite should be a coordinated unit rather than 2 entirely different decorating schemes. We have just redone both our master bedroom and bathroom including a complete bathroom renovation (meaning of course I just had to redecorate the bedroom also). If not matchy-matchy, they are certainly coordinated in style, color and accessories. Paint in bedroom is 100%, in bathroom 50% strength. I have a lot of windows in the bedroom and 2 in the bath, so we did use the same floral valances in both areas. 2 patterns in window treatments would have been too much when the windows are so close and open to each other. I have an oriental rug in each room, not the same rug, but companion rugs so the colors in each coordinate with different patterns. Black accents in each room. That may sound too matchy-matchy for you, but for me it is one coordinated suite rather than 2 entirely separate rooms. I would use the matching shower curtain rather than a different pattern, but that's just me.

Eld, maybe your niece uses Rent the Runway. I hear of people who have to go to formal events who rent a dress to wear. It makes perfect sense since these are often expensive items that you will only wear once or twice. the Stitch Fix quality is varied. Everything in my first box was very nice although one item didn’t fit and another was something I knew I would not wear. I love the cashmere sweater and it’s been very useful. The second box was much more TJ Maxx quality— cheaply made but also overpriced. I may give them one more chance in the spring and give more detail. My last trip to the mall was a nightmare. I dragged myself all over and finally found one pair of black pants. I got in line to pay. There were two people ahead of me. While I was waiting, another woman came up to the counter on the other side rather than getting in line. The salesperson insisted she had been there first. I was so tired and irritated I just shoved the pants at her and said she could keep the damn things — well maybe not quite that rude. So if I can get nice clothes delivered to the door, I am all for it. Now we are in the midst of freezing weather and snow but I have to get those clothes back in the mail within three days. At least they send a postage paid envelope.

If the curtains are a big design problem I can change them if I find an affordable option. What would you recommend? The windows are about 8 feet tall and 2 inches off ground though so the curtains dominate the room. There are even more windows in a nook behind the bed too. We live on a mountain ridge so privacy is not an issue. No one can see in our bedroom, but we need blackout curtains to sleep so I can't go curtain free or do something sheer and gauzy. I am open to changing the window dressing but I need something solid so I can place my true professional blackout curtains behind them. Any suggestions for curtain and duvet cover combos for that room? I actually love color and prints but I always end up with beige things because I am not confident with home decor.

Paint that really ugly builtin to the same as the walls for sure.I would do a white coverlet with pillows as above and the first thing to do is remove those mirrored doors on the closet to mybe louvered ones .As for a night stand or two someting simple in a steel and walnut wit good sized lamps for the guests , chose them so they can go somewhere else when your son moves in . I agree those drapes need to be at least double what you have there . In fact I like the nightstand you have just add a nice lamp for now. When possible I would remove that built in a nd have something more kid friendly for dresser and storage. Those drawers are too high for any kid to use anyway.
