Advice on firniture placement, please! (Re-post w/ re-sized pics)
Comments (14)Hi, first of all I love your house and furniture. I like the first option better but how about this (I don't know if it works): put the couch under the window facing the dining room and put the console where the couch was originally. Possibly a big ottoman (rectangular) between the coffee table and the dining room (so you can sit and chat with the couch but not block the view of the dining), put the chair in the first option angled facing the console. I assume that's your front door, moving the console leaves that walkway more available. I would put something else there, a narrow table or chest of some type. Either art or mirror can go there or on console. Bring in some more green and I like the round mirror. Mariana...See MoreAdvice needed re picking kitchen window- pictures please?
Comments (4)I went with a casement bay window and I love it. It's an Anderson 400 series and its their smallest bay window. I went with the bay because I wanted a larger span of windows than a single and I didn't want the center divide that would be created with 2 windows. Three windows seemed to be just too large since I still wanted upper cabinets. I also bumped it out to have a large place to put plants (but my basil plant already died, so I need to work on my green thumb skills). Here it is: The center window doesn't open. The two sides open. Mine is not to the counter for reasons too boring to get into as well, but I love that it is low. Note that this type of window above my bumped out sink base could make it difficult for a short person to reach the cranks to open the window, but I am tall and its not an issue for me....See MoreKitchen design advice please!
Comments (12)I'd scout around:I believe different beam dimensions are available. What is your ceiling height:I'd go for fewer beams, spaced apart more, and each beam chunkier in dimension than what you have. I don't think the beadboard above fridge works.....keep that door matching the pantry setup to the right of fridge.I'd eliminate the glass uppers on cabinet left of fridge-let that be a tall cab with regular doors for extra storage. Then all the cabs around fridge have similar doors and you can work on the glass at the other side...as far as which glass,etc..I'd go simpler but really it's personal preference. It'll be less busy and less of an issue anyway if the fridge surround doors are cleaner in style and all similar. I'm not sure I'd do dark wood beams, especially with the number and spacing you show- if spaced apart and fewer, then perhaps. I think a medium tone would be as dark as I'd go.Do you think the countersupports on island could be chunkier and put a third one in the middle....the island grabs a lot of "feature" attention....in a good way, mind you....See MoreNeed advice on Nellie Stevens re: Spacing, Privacy, & Design
Comments (4)I'm in Zone 7 where they are planted and seem to thrive all around us. We have clay soil and the area they will be planted in is full sun. We do have the space for them to thrive there; our patio is at least 60' from that area. Am I able to grow other things in a large bed with them or will they take the nutrients from anything else? As I understand it (please correct me), I can grow other acidic-loving plants within that bed, as they would do best there. I don't have plans to make it a much larger bed than the three main trees, I just liked the idea of adding 2 or so other, small flowers or shrubs so the bed looked intentional and doesn't scream "PRIVACY SCREEN"....See More- 6 years ago
