We recently bought this house and want to give our living room ceiling a makeover. We are already planning to remove the terribly ugly track lighting and replace the ceiling fan. Fortunately, even though our ceiling is so high, it's not actually the roof line, there is a couple of feet of open space above this ceiling to the roof (it's part of an attic). So we were also planning on installing some simple, clean. recessed lighting. Do you guys have any ideas about the wood paneling? Is it ok and we could just repaint? We were also thinking about just drywalling over the whole thing. I do like a white washed "rustic" kind of wood look, I also like exposed wood/beams... but for some this look isn't right. I'm not sure if it's the paint color or maybe it's the texture of the grains? It just looks dated... Also, open to alternative lighting ideas or ceiling fan suggestions. Please ignore those ugly wood sliding doors in the background, that's a whole other deal.
