Ideas on how to extend my upstairs into the vaulted ceiling space.
Comments (2)You will probably use the same type of framing system already used for the upstairs. You will have some demo/framing, electrical, floor finishes, etc. You will usually need an Engineer or Architect to review and draw a plan. The window will have to change (shorter) and you may need to install a post in the center of that wall. If you have the original plans, that will simplify and give you an idea of what is needed. If the existing room above is a bedroom, code issues may arise since you usually cannot walk through a bedroom to get to another, and you will need to meet egress requirements. You might have to install a post at the other (interior) end or hanger off existing framing, up to Engineer. If you don't need the high ceiling, it is probably worth it to get the added space....See MoreMassive wall w/ vaulted ceiling. No Idea how to design this.
Comments (5)Hello Jason Anderson , Great space you have there - very cool! One approach would be to take it's, 'weakness,' (stair location) & turn it into a strength, so let's start there. It seems you have a little built-in underneath going on. Make that little thing a big statement by building it out to create a little mini-bar with integrated wine cooler, some concealed storage and using the depth to make one of those, 'disappearing backsplashes,' that are all the rage. Or create some type of bench. Either way use the natural nook to create a more intimate space for function or private conversation. The big wall with the windows on the left and the door in the middle looks a little unbalanced. You could balance it out and create some drama with a large format painting to the right of the door, over a table or small bookcase and conceal a light behind the exposed beam. Add one or two chairs facing into the space with a coffee table. From there you would put the t.v. / media cabinet to the left of the window wall, a couch facing the window with a console table behind to keep it clean into what looks like a kitchen & you've got the big moves covered. Hope that helps. We give every project a free 15 minute strategy session - hit us up on our profile! Thanks, -frank...See MoreI am looking for ideas for my vaulted ceiling color
Comments (2)I like the combo of SW Accessible Beige and SW Alabaster; however, I would go a touch warmer on the trim color. I recommend SW 7005 Pure White with those two colors because I'm afraid the SW Extra White will look too cool. Pure White is in the same hue family as Accessible Beige and Alabaster and has just a touch more color in it. If you definitely want to stick with SW Extra White for your trim color, then I recommend SW 9166 Drift of Mist for your ceiling color. Hope that helps!...See MoreVaulted ceilings Wall Decor ideas
Comments (10)Before you move the wall decor, move the furniture. That is not a good layout for that room. A room like that doesn't have all the furniture lined up along the walls. Are you sure you want the TV over the fireplace. It's really too high for proper viewing. Also the chandelier is too small for this size room, should not be shining the light up to the ceiling as it only makes the room look even taller than it is and the fixture is not hung at the correct height from the ceiling. Let's say your room is 20ft x 20ft. if you add the two numbers together to get 40, your chandelier should not be smaller than 40inches in diameter, and because the ceiling is so tall it should have at least 2 or three tiers of lights. See images below. All your furnishings should at least have the front legs positioned on top of the area rug....See MoreMaddie Victoria
