I'd skip the wallpaper. How big is the bathroom - how much space do you have for a vanity?

the wallpaper is pretty but it's really hard to offer specific suggestions without seeing the pictures of the room and hearing a bit about your style preferences. I hear you about toning down the wallpaper-do you prefer to take the same approach with all the elements, not only the finishes? Do you like streamlined contemporary, or maybe more Art Deco, or..?Anything you can share will be helpful. If you have inspiration pics post them..

Our style is more transitional / minimalist. I already purchased the wallpaper so that has to stay. We love the paper because it isn't something we would normally pick yet were drawn to. The photo isn't great, it isn't as creamy as in the picture and has a slight iridescence to it. And why not have fun in the powder room? Though once I realized that when you "zoom out" it has a more traditional pattern, I decided to go with a polished nickel finish to give it a modern touch vs. gold toned finishes on the hardware. I do like idea of a touch of glam in the powder room.

The rest of the home is gray/white with pops of brass / muted golds for warmth and straight lines.

The powder room dimensions are 40.5"wide by 96"long and 9ft ceiling.

The current powder room is definitely not our style and way too dark. Looking to up date the look and create a brighter more welcoming place to do your business :)

..give me some time.. I hope too meanwhile others will chime in..a question meanwhile-do you have space/possibilty for sconces on the sides..whether to the side on a mirror or on two side walls, or looking to change just the vanity light you have now?

I am totally open to sconces on either side of the mirror. Thinking of simple beveled rectangular mirror. We plan to add a recessed light in the middle of the ceiling as well to add more light.

Per my original post - that wallpaper pattern comes in several colors and we chose the aqua with cream as the vendor calls it. I added the photo of the purple version just to show what the larger pattern will look like. The wallpaper color and pattern is what it is - no refunds.

..if yes-is this too streamlined? too little storage? (I have two vanities with open shelves in smaller bath and powder room..I organized shelves differently, since didn't want the look to be too closed in. but depends on your needs and preferences)

too expensive? give me some hints if you can..

recessed light? why not something like semi flush mount light?? You have a tall enough ceiling to do something nice.

that's dressier..like that it's mirrored, legged..more airy..the design somewhat repeats wallpaper pattern..so a totally different approach

(don't worry faucet's not included..they have two finishes 3 kinds of countertops..I 'd choose gray finish, white stripe countertop for the combo you have. actually the white stripe countertop is the only one that'd work)

don't ask me why it has to cost around grand, I've no answer to this question..

unsure as I vaguely dislike legs..and a bit too country(?) for the space..but as an example of something in soft blueish gray..

(it does have hardware though. not faucet but these handles. won't go with polished nickel you're planning on. one can switch handles of course. it's just that the vanity is already not cheap)

too deep i guess, in addition to being too glam too dark too expensive..countertop, they charge separately but have, like 15 styles. why am still showing it? no idea. love the legs:) has weird feel of an animal about it. a bit spooked animal.

No judging as transforming is what makes it fun. Your wallpaper selection is fun and like the color choice. What material is the flooring?

that's perfect Jodie. except for that sconce thing! love the vanity and light w/the wall paper. and she wants a beveled rectangular mirror.

The light was already in the photo of the wallpaper photo, LOL not my choice however the sconces are statement pieces and I love them but the mirror selection she wants would not fit this look.

Jodie - I love those sconces! Where are they from? How fun and different?? Maybe I will keep them in mind for the dining room. Just to clarify - the wallpaper in the bedroom photo is a different color than the one we selected.

AprilNeverEnds - thank you for all the options! I am not sure on width - what makes sense in this space? I love the modern look of the first one, but I should have mentioned I have 4 year old twins that use this powder room more often than I prefer and their cute little fingerprints would constantly be all over the chrome / mirror vanity. I love the clean looks of all the options you picked. The last option is spooky and definitely in theme with this month ;) We want to stay under $600 if possible because this redo is part of a much larger home transformation so saving pennies where we can.

As for why recessed and not a flushmount - I prefer a much more sleek clean look overall and I didn't want too much going on with cool sconces and an overhead light fixture. Also - I struggle to make decisions and didn't want one more thing I had to pick out and coordinate with overall design of powder room. We currently have flushmounts throughout our home hallways and I struggled to find something that would coordinate with out entry foyer. In the end we have decided to convert all of those to simple sleek recessed lights.

The flooring is hardwood which we are staining - not sure exact stain yet but as soon as I do - will post.

Totally get the fingerprints thing..main reason I was going back and forth on mirror vanity and decided not to post it..)) even though some people-like me for example-would be constatly fussing over it lol. Under 600..I didn't find anything I liked enough myself. So that was my problem..

Ikea has some streamlined glossy white or darker gray vanities with good reviews. I just wanted softer white-because of the wallpaper..blueish gray..a tad different colors. But I'd check IKEA too since they do have new options from time to time

Yes, we also had to save where we can so our compromise was a lot of second hand, including two of three vanities (smaller ones). Found them on Craigslist. Lots of patience and checking the damn thing several times a day..and of course driving etc..

If you're not put off by that idea-that's a good place to try and save too. Who knows maybe somebody bought new vanity and it doesn't fit and it's your style

Both our Craigslisted vanities were actually new..one, even custom handmade but never used

I use all sorts of baskets/bins of different kinds when I have open shelves

this one has no shelves, and is very streamlined..plus wallpaper..the room will be too glam for baskets so I'd find something else, more structured..cool..unique or not but cool. There are plenty of vessels/containers out there..the main starting point is to see them as containers that allow your function. However manufacturer decided to call them-secondary. Disregard. Look for function, color, shape, style

or you can find a beautiful box. in TJ Maxx even. or just a box but wallpaper it with the rest of your wallpaper(which you'll have I guess..enough to wallpaper a box). my only concern with such a box would be not to get it wet since karton and paper

but main point-tons of beautiful containers out there. unfortunately the ones I really got excited about cost like a vanity or something..:)

but you can find something very cool and cheap too

you can find a cool vintage bag by the way. like, a purse. that can be wow

some kitchen containers look great and are large enough.

bottom line-let your mind roam free..
