What music do YOU listen to when working on Bonsai?
Comments (23)ooh, yes... the sound of silence - that reminds me....I'm going to put on some classic Simon & Garfunkel when working on some slabs this week. For the slabs I'm using big pieces of slate from my mom's old dug up 1950's patio (beautiful red, blue variants, and black/gray slate)....... Ive been creating these miniature landscapes with muck, driftwood, some accent rocks, some real small jinned Japanese Junipers, and yes - moss. Collecting wild moss for my bonsai - I always make sure that I collect moss from areas that have similar soil to my muck for easier adjusting. I also only collect moss where it gets good sun exposure - this way I know the moss is sun tollerant, doesn't demand shade, and won't burn in the sun. A problem I've had for years with moss, is that bonsai fertilizer burns my moss brown. I've used 10-10-10 slow release pellets, and have also used 10-10-10 liquid fertilizer. I have to stick the pellets in the soil deep and away from the moss, or if using liquid fetilizer I water the bonsai trees around and away from the moss. Anyone else have problems with fetilizing their bonsai & it killing/browning their moss? I'll go post my question at the moss forum - http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/crypto/...See MoreHow do you download music?
Comments (10)Actually you are too late for the good old days of music downloads. The viruses and the jerks have taken over and it's too risky now to download without paying a fee. Also our awaremess of what constitutes "intellectual property" has become more clarified, and well it's not nice tos teal something that someone is selling for money. There are many sites, some you pay a fee for unlimited downloads and others you pay by the album or the song. Find somewhere that has the kind of music you like, join the program, send your fees via PayPal and you are in business. The file sharing programs were fun but are also very dangerous....think of it as STD for computers! You upolad your infected file, I down load it and infect all my files and then I upload it and there you go. Soon a huge percentage of the files are infected. It works much like a photo sharing site like Flicker or photobucket. Linda C...See MoreHow do you pronounce 'Music'
Comments (3)Hi Hortist, Well he was from New Joisey and everyone knows that we do not have accents :-) So if I understand you correctly, it is NOT pronounced like, as Gardenlad put it, "what you get when Count Basie backs up Frank Sinatra"?? Tom...See MoreListening to 1960's music.
Comments (15)brushworks, aside from Linda Ronstadt, it's interesting that while I'm a music hobbist, I haven't heard of those other names. For those of you who like Sirius, try Pandora or Slacker. For a free membership that only requires setting up a website log-in, you can customize numerous personal stations, each seeded with particular artists that you choose. Like, you can have a Paul Simon station, a Supremes station, a Guns n Roses station, etc., from which they will play songs of your choice plus others in the same style. As those songs are played, you can indicate - "I like this", or "Ban this group or song", so that over time, the song selection is highly customized. Pandora and Slacker will play over PCs, iPads and tablets, smartphones, apps on disk players and TVs, and other hardware like Sonos, etc., Two advantages over Sirius - 1) Sound is "broadcast" at a higher quality and so it sounds clearer and better. (compare music as it used to sound on an AM station to an FM station. Like that), and 2) Cheaper than Sirius, both are free. Another good choice is Spotify, which allows you to specifically pick individual songs to listen to and build a playlist that way....See MoreBluebell66
