ABBA! ... relentlessly bright catchy songs with often awesome instrumentals! Songs for everyone, every mood, many beautiful soaring harmonies! Hundreds of millions of records sold and now Mamma Mia becoming the biggest grossing musical of all time! Odd, but, a group that somehow had much been overlooked by the USA! ... though, extremely popular throughout most of the rest of the world, including Canada!

Interesting feedback what you folks listen to while working bonsai.

I also listen to Nick Drake, the soundtracks to the movies DUNE, BLADE RUNNER, and REPO MAN. The album Hemispheres from RUSH, and yes, Type O Negative and N.I.N's old stuff.......sometimes Bob Mould from Huskerdu, Lauri Anderson's "Oh Superman" album...........
and especially PAUL BOWLES doing spoken word with ambient music in the background - his last album BAPTISM OF SOLITUDE before he died (this is my very favorite to listen to while doing bonsai).

The most interesting music I've listened to when woking on my bonsai trees?? That would be the acoustic electronic music from the 1976 record album called "MOTHER EARTH'S PLANTASIA". This record claims to cure and revive your plants health..... here's a quote on the jacket of the 12 inch sleeve to the record = "Full warm beautiful mood music composed to aid in the growing of your plants - Dr. T.C. Singh, Dept of Botony, Annamala University (India)".

Rush, Yes, Led Zeppelin, Ritchie Blackmores Rainbow, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Old Golden Earring, Foghat, whatever I have happened to put on the tapes I take into my work area with me.

By in large we are a very deversified group. I'm very thankful not to see much in the way of country. I'll call Johny Cash Rock-a-diddle as he was called back in the day and say there's no country here. Good news for all.

Like to also dispell the rumors that only classical music is good for plants. All mine have appreciated my Linkin Park, Emenem, Evenescence, Green Day, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Beatles, Tom Petty, Traveling Wilberies, and occasional Jazz flings, but never, not ever any country.

Got a feeling I'm gona get flamed by a boot-scootin, big hat wearin red neck from the South (or maybe even down-town Philly) real quick...

ooh, yes... the sound of silence - that reminds me....I'm going to put on some classic Simon & Garfunkel when working on some slabs this week.

For the slabs I'm using big pieces of slate from my mom's old dug up 1950's patio (beautiful red, blue variants, and black/gray slate).......

Ive been creating these miniature landscapes with muck, driftwood, some accent rocks, some real small jinned Japanese Junipers, and yes - moss.

Collecting wild moss for my bonsai - I always make sure that I collect moss from areas that have similar soil to my muck for easier adjusting. I also only collect moss where it gets good sun exposure - this way I know the moss is sun tollerant, doesn't demand shade, and won't burn in the sun.

A problem I've had for years with moss, is that bonsai fertilizer burns my moss brown. I've used 10-10-10 slow release pellets, and have also used 10-10-10 liquid fertilizer.

I have to stick the pellets in the soil deep and away from the moss, or if using liquid fetilizer I water the bonsai trees around and away from the moss.

Anyone else have problems with fetilizing their bonsai & it killing/browning their moss?
