We love listening to Smooth Jazz on weekends using AccuRadio. It's an online station with tons of music choices. We play it thru the tv.

We usually listen to classic rock, but some days I like to mix it up with alternative rock, blues and bluegrass. I also love Amy Winehouse's music, but didn't appreciate her talent until after her death.

I occasionally get in the mood for good down home Louisiana music and kbon radio in Eunice Louisiana is a great station for that. It is available online.

I have Sirus radio in my car, love Escape #69. 99% instrumental easy listening, rarely a vocal. Fun to see if I can name that tune before I check the screen. Once in a while will listen to Willie's Roadhouse which is old country music.

Internet sites like Pandora allow you to choose between listening to their own divese choice of specific genre themed stations or to create your own stations. The custom ones are done by seeding a "custom" station with a list of artists you want to hear. Then when listening, you can indicate "More of this" or "Less of that" relative to what comes up so that the custom station can be more closely tailored to your tastes overtime. I have about a dozen custom stations on Pandora (I use the free version, there are occasional and unobtrusive commercials) with diversity ranging from Classical Music, to British Invasion, to Folk music to Live Music to Hawaiian, to Zydeco/Cajun, etc, depending on what I want to hear. You start on the website, create a log in, and then start.

Advantages to Pandora:

1) the sound quality is usually quite superior to a typical music channel supplied by your TV service. Most of those are of poor quality because bandwidth is needed for the TV channels.

2 It's very flexible, you can listen many ways almost anywhere. On your PC when using it. From your smartphone that you listen to when taking a walk or exercise. Or via bluetooth from your phone to your car when driving. Or using a tablet with headphones when you have a wifi connection anywhere, or at home from a tablet or smartphone via a wire or bluetooth to a good speaker or your stereo system. Or from an Android device or Chrome browser to a Chromecast audio device or the native Pandora or Chromecast apps many smart TVs come with for free.

3) If you want to listen through your TV, as above, most smart ones (or disk players with apps) have Pandora so that the higher quality Pandora sound source can similarly go through your TV sound system.

I love music too. When I'm not listening to my own collection, I use Pandora. I've got a few channels there customized for various genres, various moods. Great way to discover new-to-me artists.

I used to subscribe to Sirius for my car and enjoyed it. Is there an easy way to listen to it in the house?

edited to add per Elmer's post: I've resisted upgrading our TV's sound. Do I really want to hear Chopped or The Property Brothers or whatever in surround sound? No, no, no!!!!!! For music we use Pandora via Sonos speakers for most rooms and a stereo in the living room. Should I rethink? My DH loves buying electronics....

No, not at all nickel. You're several stories above ground level with a Sonos system, Sonos speakers and what, a Sonos "Connect" for transport to your stereo? I've set Sonos systems up a few times for friends.

My comments were directed to the many who don't have anything resembling a streaming-capable music system in their house. Most have smartphones or TVs with so-called "smart" capabilities and I was just pointing out that on the same equipment a better quality of sound with more variety is available.

I myself have a Sonos-like system that similarly carries my digitized music collection (and streaming sources) over wifi. It was an early on innovator in the area that Sonos copied and, frankly, out marketed and out sold. It's no longer made but the equipment is still very capable and I prefer it to Sonos. But it does the same things, in different ways but to similar effect. Compare Apple equipment to Android/PC equipment, that's kind of the difference, where Sonos is Apple and sets itself up but with little flexibility compared to what I have.

Oh good, Elmer, when my husband is looking at those long thin speaker bars that fit under a tv I can with a clear conscience keep telling him, "no, we don't need that...." :-)

Those are different - that's a soundbar. Sonos makes one and it serves double duty - better sound quality when watching TV, and then when the TV is off as another Sonos player for music or whatever you use your Sonos system for. Some use it to stream radio too, ball games or whatever. It also allows listening to stations from other parts of the US and the world with the TuneIn Radio app, as my system does too.

I'm not much of a TV watcher but people who do, and especially those who like movies too, often prefer a better sound quality than the usually crappy TV speakers can provide and a soundbar is often the right form format to do so easily. So I won't go along with you necessarily. I do have good speakers connected to my stereo that I can route TV sound to hidden behind fabric doors in the entertainment center the TV is on. I just don't often turn them on for that purpose, they're usually used for music listening in that family room

My music of choice has always been classical (esp. Beethoven, Mozart and Albinoni's oboe concerti). So very lucky to have a stellar FM radio station (WCRB Boston) available! It amazes me that we are able to enjoy whatever music we love so easily today -- wonder what Beethoven et.al. would think of that!

I like music...but I also like talk radio. Clark Howard or Dave Ramseys millionaire call-in hour. Very inspiring!

We (Dh and I) have a collection of 163 cds that include old timey. old country, bluegrass, folk, classical and a little new age. Plus we have several music channels on the tv we listen to plus Sirius XM into the house and van. Many days/evenings we don't turn on the tv except to watch Jeopardy and catch the evening news. A radio station out of a nearby university plays 4 hours of bluegrass on Saturday afternoon and again Sunday mornings. Yes we are music lovers. Keeps us sane in this crazy world today!

Love listening to a variety of music. Almost anything but headbanger or a few other types of music and I’ll eventually get around to listening to it.

In my car, it’s usually Sirius or my own collection. In the house, we have a couple of portable Bose wireless speakers, so I can take one of those outside and listen to my music when I’m working in the yard and gardens. Inside, we have the sound system for the same, plus channels on Direct TV we can select. Right now I’m practicing Christmas choral music, and we have a practice CD. So I’m learning and memorizing my alto part to around 12 songs for a performance in mid-December. Tedious but worthwhile when it will all come together.

I’m loving the Hallmark Christmas channel on satellite radio right now! Usually it’s classic rock.

WUOL classical station is my constant companion all day, at home and in the car.

It Christmas music for me. I LOVE that my local radio is playing it now,but I do listen to it year round when I want to. I use the iheartradio app. Takes the edge off of life.....

Jasdip and I have the same taste in music. Jazz for me. I like classical, European too.

I like a variety of music. I guess rock and country (old and new) would be my top choices. Need to find a buddy to go see Bohemian Rhapsody. I've heard it's good.
