Do You Listen to Music Around the House?

I know that a lot of you do listen to music. I think all of my family probably does, but I don't. I have lots of old albums and several older cds. We have only one radio and it is in my room because it was a birthday gift to me. I just sort of like the peace and quiet, can hear the birds and my own thoughts. It isn't because I dislike music, not at all. How about all of you?

Not constantly because I do like peace and quiet, but not a day goes by that I don't listen to music. I listen to it while I am on the treadmill (fast, upbeat songs), I often play music when I am cooking a meal or when I am editing pictures on the computer. I don't like listening to music when I am reading, though, it's too distracting.

I like the music I get on DirecTV. I can tune to a 50s or 60s channel.

I search various real estate websites online, everyday. It's like a part time job for us. Not so much remax, century 21, or weichert, since their sites tend to be so overwhelming and cluttery. I tend to choose local real estate company websites, which in my experience have been a bit more accurate with more detail and clearer photos. If I find a house I like, I try everything to find the address to visit it first before wasting our agents time. Real estate agents aren't what they use to be (no offense). It use to be that they showed you houses that truly matched your criteria, now you can't trust an agent, especially if you live out of state. They will show you the junkiest houses, in the worst neighborhoods, with no regards to your wishes or needs, and let me tell you we're not picky. All we're looking for is a fixer upper on a wooded secluded lot. We're willing to do the roof, the floors, doors, trim. All we need is at least 3 bed, 1 bth, but leave it to your agent to show you houses that are undoable. In their defense though, I understand they have to show off the houses that have been sitting for a while to demonstrate effort to the seller, however, it's not cool when your agent knows you're driving 3-4 hours to see a house and you have specifically asked them if the house is secluded and they tell you yes, only to get there and see another house in plain view. Thank goodness we decided to rent in the area we're looking so we don't have to drive 3-4 hours anymore..

How do you LISTEN to books?

Well, to answer the question, I listen to books through the Talking Books program that is run by the US Library of Congress National Library Service. I do all of my "reading" this way and have done so for the last 25 years. I'm very used to books on tape. Soon they will be converting to a digital format. Of course, being this kind of reader means that I don't often get to take part in discussions of books on boards like this one. I can't just order up a book from the library and expect to get it in time for the discussion. Sometimes I wait many years for a requested book. Just the other day I got one I'd requested 12 years ago, for instance. On the other hand, I get to keep the books for up to a year. I know of no other library with such a generous policy. Back in my student days, we often had to get library books for 24 hours only--and race back with them to avoid stiff fines.

brushworks, aside from Linda Ronstadt, it's interesting that while I'm a music hobbist, I haven't heard of those other names. For those of you who like Sirius, try Pandora or Slacker. For a free membership that only requires setting up a website log-in, you can customize numerous personal stations, each seeded with particular artists that you choose. Like, you can have a Paul Simon station, a Supremes station, a Guns n Roses station, etc., from which they will play songs of your choice plus others in the same style. As those songs are played, you can indicate - "I like this", or "Ban this group or song", so that over time, the song selection is highly customized. Pandora and Slacker will play over PCs, iPads and tablets, smartphones, apps on disk players and TVs, and other hardware like Sonos, etc., Two advantages over Sirius - 1) Sound is "broadcast" at a higher quality and so it sounds clearer and better. (compare music as it used to sound on an AM station to an FM station. Like that), and 2) Cheaper than Sirius, both are free. Another good choice is Spotify, which allows you to specifically pick individual songs to listen to and build a playlist that way.

I do not use iTunes or any Apple products. I still have my collection of CDs, but I have them stored in books so that they do not take up much space. I have ripped all my CDs (using Windows Media Player), and then I transfer the music I like best onto thumb drives that I take with me. I use a thumb drive at work and listen to music using Winamp (not my favorite program, but I've been using is for many years at work), and at home on my computer I use AIMP, another free program that I like better than Winamp. In the rest of the house, I plug a thumb drive into our sound system and listen to using through that, and in my car, I have a CD player (no USB port), and so I listen to MP3s that I have stored on a CD disc, which will hold quite a few. My brother got a new sound system for his truck that has a USB port, and so we use thumb drives for that. Neither my brother nor I like iTunes, and we both do sound editing on MP3s, which is easier to do than with iTunes. I refuse to buy anything from Apple. I do listen to the radio occasionally, as we have a good university station here in Westchester from Loyola Marymount: KXLU. The university is very close to the beach, and so a lot of the DJs sound like surfers and can be a bit ditzy, but I'm okay with that. My clock radio alarm is set to that station.

I have DirecTV too, I like the 90's and Current channels. I actually think I feel better if I listen to music an hour or so a day.

I bought an old laptop on eBay and some speakers and will use that for music in the room addition. Radio.com is great. I thought buying the laptop and listening to the free satellite radio made more sense than spending even more on a reciever and cd player.. plus I'll have a laptop to take on vacation so I won't miss anything here at the KT! lol.

Yes! I grew up listening to music.
My father always listen to opera on Saturdays Was it Metropolitan Opera????

Have music channels on Charter tv and love listening to Easy Listening, ALWAYS all day on Sunday.

No. I listen to talk radio all the time, except I listen to Coast to Coast on the radio from midnight to 4 a.m., unless it is boring and then I will switch to talk radio.

I listen to talk radio a lot. I also listen to music on my computer at work sometimes. And I listen to satellite radio (music) almost every at home.

I usually listen to talk radio most of the day but occasionally will turn to music. In the evening when I take my bath I put in a relaxing CD.

I'll listen to all sorts of stuff. Lately I turn up Santana to do my housework.

Yes, when I'm at the computer. I have the radio set to a classical music station.

But if I'm cooking or doing housework I have to a talk radio or news station on.

Before my DH retired I would turn on the XM radio and listen to the 40's and 50's channels. Now that he is retired I do listen to them some time but not as often. When I am at the computer I listen to Hawaiian music through my headset. When in the car I always have my XM radio on. We hardly ever watch TV.

My home is filled with music! My DH is a retired HS music teacher. He plays piano, flute and sax.

We also collect music CDs - smooth jazz, classical, pop, R&R.

We listen to a lot of country music, our Goddaughter and her husband have a country band and listen to their cd's.
if I don't have music on, I have the tv on.
