re: a futon I think they can be iffy in terms of quality, or design. I've run into ones that aren't comfortable as a sofa (too low; too deep of a seat; something), and ones that are too hard for sleeping on. However, my dad has one that opens to a double bed, and it's actually OK for sleeping, and it's OK for sitting. So I would say don't get one unless you're going to be able to look around and find one that's well designed and comfortable, and spring for it. I know my mom looked long and hard for this one. It has drawers underneath, which is nice for storing the pillows, etc., when it's in bed form (which nowadays is never; we just leave it made up anymore, bcs the socializing is done in the living room, and the futon is in the den). But if he expects to have people sleep over, a futon is useful.

The room beside the fireplace room looks sooooo good! Hard to believe it is the same house! OK, about the lamps. You need rectangular shades either for those lamps or we need to try a different approach. You can try that white lamp you have with the rectangular shade on one end and then try putting a floor lamp on the end where there is the corner. I see you “grouped” some photos on a small table by the white chair. And put a throw over the white chair. How does that look from the back view? Are you gaining some confidence now and seeing with some changes you can vastly improve your home and not spend a dime! Don’t you love that?

Hello everyone, I just recently moved into my apartment and currently only have some furniture from my old flat, which I dont really like. Therefore I am currently trying to think of how I want to redesign it and buy all the furniture over the next few monts. Unfortunately I have no real sense of what looks good together, what details to look out for and how to match colors. I am trying to keep it simple and modern. So far I have tried to design it with an online room planer (see link below), since I just cant imagine how a piece of furniture would look like in real life... I will also keep my desk, everything else will be replaced (TV-Stand, Cupboards, etc.) Overall I like it how it looks so far although there are a few issues: Rug. I really like the rug but am not able to find it anywhere. What rug would you recommend? TV-Stand: I am not the biggest fan of this lightgrey TV-Stand. I was thinking about a lowboard that has a dark brown frame and a little white to it. Big wall art: I don't have a big wallart for the wall yet, this one is just temporary and I'm sorry that it is not centered ;-) Cupboard below the Art: Does a cupboard fit there? I will have one cupboard next to the desk and I really need some storage space. Any recommendations? It just looks really clumped. What else could I do with this space? Thank you for all your comments and suggestions. We are now leaning towards leaving the fireplace but expanding the casements as wide as we possible can on either side of the fireplace. We have about 83 inches on each side; however taking into account trim, I think we would be safe with 78 inches of space for windows. Thoughts on having 3 casements (one opening and 2 fixed) all the same size or two casements (one opening and one fixed) the same size or 2 casements with the opening one being smaller than the fixed one? Thoughts?
