Default Mail?

I use gmail exclusively. I do not use Windows Mail.

When I try to email a link on a webpage, it opens in Windows Mail.

I went to default programs on the computer and do not see a way to put gmail as my default email program.

I have Win 10, (which I hate), can't seem to find a way to change the default email.

Sorry, I'm sure to most of you this is simple but I can't figure it out and would appreciate any help.

Firefox browser, click on the hamburger bars on top right, click on the gear for options & scroll down to applications / click the mailto: drop down box. https://imgur.com/a/xRFwW

Its sometimes complicated...

What browser do you use ?

Do you use the win10 store google app or the browser for gmail website, or what. Another words, how or where do you read/write email.

I run Win7 on this computer. Win10 may be different ...

Clicking a mailto: link in Firefox (latest version 56.0) brings up a dialog of choices, of which Gmail is offered. I don't use Gmail so the choices apparently are a native function of Firefox. IE11 doesn't offer choices, just whatever is the default mail app.

(tried to include a screenshot of the Firefox dialog but it won't attach/upload to the post)

Mikie, I googled SFC /ScanNow and read page after page of related links. They get into a range that is much too technical for me. For now I think I just have to leave well enough alone. I'm very disappointed though that I can't get screen shots of the animals like I could before IE7 intruded itself onto my PC. At the time you followed the link to Djuma, the cameras were not rolling. They do two drives each day, one around noon, our time, and the other around midnight, our time. I would appreciate it very much if you would try this link at one of those times, do a screen shot and post it here. And if anyone is still using IE6, I would like for them to do the same. I still just want to know it can be done. I am watching at Djuma right now and there is a huge beautiful male lion, resting right in the road. urlee Apparently my default mail is Windstream. Windstream is my ISP and has been for several years. I will go to their web site and try to change that. No, leave that as is. My ISP is my default mail too! When you downloaded WLM, did you have to enter info from your server like incoming pop3, and outgoing smtp? I am guessing that is what makes WLM work as default to my knowledge. because when the Windows Live software was downloaded, what I got was a Hot Mail address Are you sure you downloaded WLM for Win7 and NOT the Hotmail one?. If so, then it looks like your hotmail one went default on you like it did me automatically before.

Making AOL E-mail As Default

Just browsing around tonight and noticed there were computer forums here. I use AOL thought I would tell you it can be done as I have tried this and it works fine. Read the link I posted and it will tell you what program to download. It's for gmail but when you install it you will have the option to pick AOL from the list. and that's it. Then when you are online and click somewhere to email a site it will bring up a filled in AOL mail form from aol.com. I am guessing though you have to make sure you leave aol.com logged in all the time and do not sign out. I was helping someone once make yahoo.com the default mail in firefox by using the malto code or what ever it is and stumbled upon this so thought I would try it and file it away for reference in case someone needed to know that. Copy url, start gmail, paste the address into the body of the new message and bingo- you have a link. Address message and send. Done

Whip, I could try that and I'll report back. But why? Shouldn't I be able to set my default mail?

Mikie, I use Firefox. I have gmail as my email. I have an app on my phone but just use a shortcut on my tool bar to get to gmail. Not really understanding what you are asking. Sooo confused.

On XP I could pick my default programs, now I'm dealing with this nonsense. I should be able to prevent Windows from being the default.

Dadoes, I have that. The problem is when I click on a 'contact us' it opens in Windows mail where I do not have an account and refuse to set one up.

Ah, yes. I set majority of those options to "ask" so I am given the choices each time the function is triggered.

Mine was set to 'ask' but always opened in Windows Mail. It never asked!
