Are you using it directly from the website, or have you configured it into an account on an e-mail client such as Thunderbird?

Directly from web sites. Every business that has a "contact box" links to live mail. I installed all the MS software that pertained to live mail and only got an unwanted hot mail account.

What is your default mail account?

I am thinking rejection is because it won't except webmail (Hotmail, gmail, Yahoo) as a legitimate address.

If you are using WinXP, WLhotMail is web-based.

Win7 has WLM which if default will work considering your downloading tactics of it. (DL using your server)

This appears to be a stickier mess than I thought. In some attempt to make this work I distinctly remember checking a box to make WLM my default mail, likely when (or shortly after) it was downloaded. Checking that box brought a glimmer of hope that that was key plus the knowledge that there even existed a "default" mail account. Software was downloaded at my home on the only machine I use.

I am on my WinXP right now but when I go on my win7 laptop that is using WLM, I will check into it to see what I can come up with.
Will try and find a website to bring up a "Contact Us" thingy to see what takes place.

When I installed WLM, I had to give my server info with each step during the install.

OK.
I am on my laptop now.
Found a place to "Contact" to send mail to.
When I clicked on "contact us", My WLM opened up for me to email to.
Up in the right hand corner, my Server address showed.
The email got sent ok.
I sent another email using my gmail account (upper right hand corner) from WLM and that went through OK.
WLM is my default account. It is using my server.
That is all I can tell you.

At present I can not find a site that funnels me to WLM. I have this page saved for future reference. Next time it comes up I will have some sort of starting point.

I am thinking your default mail program is the Hotmail one.
That is why the rejection.

Hotmail made mine default automatically when I signed in on my new laptop and I got mad, solved that problem and will not open hotmail again.

Apparently my default mail is Windstream. Windstream is my ISP and has been for several years. I will go to their web site and try to change that. If I simply must have a default program that may not help much because when the Windows Live software was downloaded, what I got was a Hot Mail address. This month is cluttered up with appointments so computer problems may have to take a number and wait.

Tickman, you can use any e-mail address (server) you wish with Windows Live Mail, and whichever one you choose will be your default one. I have three g-mail addresses and another web-based mail program, and they all work with WLM. They do have to be configured to work that way. I do prefer having a desktop mail program rather than just using a browser to go directly to g-mail. On my older XP machine I have done the same with Outlook Express.

No, leave that as is. My ISP is my default mail too!
When you downloaded WLM, did you have to enter info from your server like incoming pop3, and outgoing smtp? I am guessing that is what makes WLM work as default to my knowledge.

Are you sure you downloaded WLM for Win7 and NOT the Hotmail one?.
If so, then it looks like your hotmail one went default on you like it did me automatically before.

I might add that WLHotmail went default on me before I installed Win7 WLM if that makes a difference in my case.

Otherwise, Like grandms said above, Tickman, you can use any e-mail address (server) you wish with Windows Live Mail, and whichever one you choose will be your default one.

And after you installed Win7 WLM, you can add other webmail accounts to WLM to be able to receive and send from instead of having to go separately to each webmail account to do so.

I still am having a hard time finding my way around in Win7 as to where and the hows.
But--------
With WLM open, click on Tools, Accounts.
In the box that opens, I see Default after my ISP (server) account. That is my email address for Outlook Express in WinXP and of when I installed WLM with.
Hope that helps you in letting you know what you have for Default.

It appears that I was never in any danger of downloading WLM. Why MS would be flogging Hot Mail is beyond my comprehension, as is much else. When time permits I will take another run at downloading WLM and try to have answers at hand for whatever information they require. Thanks again for all the help.
