Security needed on WIN7?

On XP I had Malwarebites, Spyware Blaster, and Super Anti Spyware. Now that I have HP WIN7, and getting somewhat used to it, I have a question. Do I need/want all of those?

Firefox is default browser; Thunderbird is default mail, each has up-to date versions.

You do not show an anti virus program? Surely you have one?

Malwarebytes and Superantispyware only run when you set them to do so.

Spywareblaster is a TSR (terminate and stay resident) program.

Computer security is a personal choice, personally on my Windows 7 computer I only have Microsoft Security Essentials and on my Windows 8 just Windows Defender and I am comfortable. Both use the Windows firewall. That is NOT to suggest others should follow suit, it is just my choices while others will no doubt have varying opinions on good, better, best.

Sue, I have W 7 and I use MSE and the same spyware you use. I like Super aniti spyware because it picks up junk from my games the others don't. I don't think I need the others, it's just what I used before MSE came out.

I bought a really cheap Dell at Walmart two years ago while traveling. Our laptop got virused on the trip and we needed a computer fast. I think I paid $299.00 for a 17" running Win7. It had a year warranty so I figured I could return it at any Walmart during the trip. Never had a bit of trouble with that machine. I don't even know what size hard drive or any specs. Its just used for photos and works well. I have bought computers at Best Buy. Never had any problems either. Never had to return anything. Still have an old HP Win XP netbook (remember those), which works great. We have a bunch of old Dell desktops and laptop which still work. They were purchased from Dell directly. No problems there either. I don't think it really matters where you buy unless you require support after the warranty runs out. Never had that happen and I don't buy contracts. Our problem is - what does one do with all these old computers which still work? I wouldn't worry about where to buy a new one. Jane

Yes, as long as you have a program that will "clone" the hard drive. Several free ones will do this. I use EaseUS ToDo for this purpose. It can copy files or make an image (clone) of the entire drive including operating system (Win 7, in your case) as well as all programs and applications. Look up some of these programs and read what they can and cannot do. But if you have the original Windows 7 disks, you have other choices as well. If you format your hard drive, you should start with a clean drive and then just re-install the OS and any programs plus your pictures, documents, etc. I don't understand why you would now be out of drive space just because you "loaded the system a couple of other times." How did you go about doing this?

Since MSE is a given, I skipped right over mentioning it. Yes, I have it.

WIN7 is interesting in that it is just different in it's own way.

Emma, speaking of games, 'way back I got hooked on Book Worm, and my DD and DS also and we competed against each other. I finally gave it up because it caused a problem with my shoulder. Now I only play Free Cell.
