In my opinion, I would use the recessed lighting and other layered lighting that is in your plan. I would not add a centered light. I think you will have a cleaner, more contemporary look without the additional light. I put recessed lighting in two kitchens and was extremely happy with the result. If you feel more light is needed, you could always add additional recessed lighting in center of the wider room.

We have a pair of Bessa 3-bulb flushmounts in center of kitchen. Not one of my later photos show them but this shot just before moving in does. I understand your difficulty in finding flush-mount images. Non-recessed general lighting doesn't seem to go into new construction kitchens right now. We teamed these two with 5 pendants, just to be different. :-) This part of kitchen is 16 ft x 12 ft. There are more matching 2-bulb flushmounts in adjacent spaces. Our goal was to avoid anything that penetrated to attic, to prevent ice dams, but we also like having some detail on ceiling and these have good looking mottled glass, perhaps called "carrera"?

Hey everyone, Uploading photos below. You'll see through-shots of the three rooms in question: a living room (near the far window/wall), a sort of foyer area (in the middle of the two other rooms), and the dining room. The dining room currently has no light. Just wires hanging out the wall. The medallions in question are in the living room and foyer/entry area. They are the same medallion. They have the same lamp--though it's hung at different heights. We bought the house that way and just haven't had time or energy to toggle the base of the lamps as we've been setting up other things. My questions for the Houzz community: --Do we want/need to have a third medallion that matches in the dining room--or should the dining room medallion be "matched" instead to whatever light we put under it? --Should medallions technically only be paired with chandeliers and pendants? Would it be crazy to put some sort of flush mount on a medallion? (I've included an illustrative photo of the kind of flush mount we'd considered at the end of the list.) I got up on a ladder yesterday and tried to pry to contact plate up in the sockets. I was able to get one of them up but the other one was broken/missing. So it looks like we’ll be getting a light kit at the minimum. The morning room is 15’4”x 11’8”. The rug we had in there was a 6’x9’. I thought an 8’x10’ would work better so the chairs could stay on the rug but I bought one a couple months ago and it just seemed way too big for the space. The table is 66"L x 40"W x 30"H Extended: 84"L x 40"W x 30"H
