Pic Request: Recessed and Flush-mount

Hi Everyone

I have tried using google images and cannot find what I am looking for.

I would like to see pictures of kitchens that have both recessed and flush-mount light fixtures. Our kitchen in an enclosed U-shape and is not conducive to hanging pendants. I am thinking about using recessed lighting around the perimeter and one or two flush mounted fixtures in the center of the room.

Any pics would be greatly appreciated.

Ok, This is my soon to be renovated kitchen. I have recessed lights around the perimeter and flush mount lights in my "hallway" and a chandelier over my table. Just so you know, I cannot wait to get rid of the current fruity fixture and find another flush mount.

If you have standard 8' ceilings what about considering semi-flushmount lighting fixtures as well. It will give some depth to the ceiling instead of having everything stuck at ceiling height. No pics just another option.

Personally, here is how I see your dilemma. If you just want to see how it looks, I'll suggest that you already know how it looks, in general. And yes, people do appreciate fine touches well done. So yes, it is "worth it" in the big picture if you want something special. Your fabricator is the one to talk to for a serious discussion. They need to be skilled. They need to be proud to do it. How the gap will look after they cut / router the opening: ie. whether the stone will chip there (etc), whether you will be willing to pay for the extra cutting / polishing time, whether they will cut it a bit wide just to be sure it's not too small -- in other words how much they are competent capable and interested in doing a good job. Try calling Miele and speaking to a specialist. I've done this many times, and received many emails with attachment images. The photo or image will no doubt show the best view. The Miele's steel rim is well designed, or adapted, to be recessed. hth

the stancion anchors that come w/ the sr smith swim n dunk and volleyball systems do not have a wedge, bolt and anchor like the handrails have. You will want to mount the top rim of the anchor flush w/ the finish of the deck.

If you prefer the look of recessed "can" lights, there are some great retrofit options these days. These install like regular surface-mount fixtures, but they are ultra-slim and look very similar to a can light. And they are quite reasonably priced too. Of course, if you want more than one fixture in a location that previously only had a single fixture, or if you want dimmers in a location that didn't have them, then things get a little more expensive. But this is well within the realm of what a DIY homeowner or a cheap handyman could do. This doesn't mean that "real" can lights don't make sense in new construction products. But for retrofits, the difference in labor cost favors the ultra-slim lights.

Almost any fixture would do, you don't actually need a j-box to install on the ceiling (unless required by your city's building code), a cross bar and special anchors for drywall would do (on low weight fixtures). We have a pair of Bessa 3-bulb flushmounts in center of kitchen. Not one of my later photos show them but this shot just before moving in does.

I understand your difficulty in finding flush-mount images. Non-recessed general lighting doesn't seem to go into new construction kitchens right now. We teamed these two with 5 pendants, just to be different. :-)

This part of kitchen is 16 ft x 12 ft. There are more matching 2-bulb flushmounts in adjacent spaces. Our goal was to avoid anything that penetrated to attic, to prevent ice dams, but we also like having some detail on ceiling and these have good looking mottled glass, perhaps called "carrera"?

Thanks everyone... if you can find anymore please post. But I do think I will do both recessed and a flush/semi-flush.
