Two succulents IDs please + dying leaf?

Hi

Can I get some IDs on these two succulents?

The first had two large bottom leaves that shrivelled up and fell off days after getting the plant. Now the same shrivelling is happening to the lower leaves. Is this normal?

Jewel leaf is the common name for Graptopetalum amethystinum. Although Pachyphytum oviferum also looks very similar to it, you will have to wait for it to flower to be certain.

1st plant is extremely etiolated. It looks like one of the frilly echeverias, but ID it exactly is not easy in that condition. Looks like it is potted in peat/coco peat and may be not draining well. Container needs to have drainage hole, can't tell if yours does or doesn't. Excessive shrivelling of leaves could be from over- or under-watering.

It was like this when I bought it from a market stall...

I repotted into 1/3 succulent mix, 1/3 perlite, and 1/3 coconut coir. It has had one feed since I had it, and subsequently grew two new leaves fairly fast so I hope it is getting better. Yes, there are drainage holes drilled in.

The shrivelling has slowed, I wonder if it's doing better now...

#2, As sagebrush mentions, look at the bottom of the last page of their articles - the last time I subscribed to the CSSA, contact information for the authors of the article was published below the last line of test, after the bibliography (if any). And I thought that it was a transplanted Cotyledon. The flowers are fantastic.

The above post already gave you a pretty clear answer. I'm just gonna throw a bold guess here and call your first plant an Orbea variegata, a common species but definitely full of surprises! I've got one but has yet to flower. That Gasteria looks crazy! Awesome :) Very nice pots too. And yay for Canadians on GW!

A possibility for you on that 2nd one in the last bunch: Aeonium sedifolium (which was my first thought, but I nixed it, as your plant's leaves are not so plump as I would think it to have...but it does have the tannic stripes/coloring). Still, I would not say this is IT. :P Would like to see its blooms, if/when it does. =) Adding a link to a pic of one, but not sure GW allows this site when linking (we shall see). Okay, it would not, because of spam or other. This site also has other pix of this plant that look more like how I believe it should look. Also, I don't find this site has correct labeling of their plants, so don't fully trust them. So, google image this name. Maybe I'll email you the name of site! I was thinking the second one might be something of the Pachy- or Grapto- varieties! From the photos I've googled of Pachyphytum glauca, it looks a little different but I'm struggling to describe why - the leaves look a bit more spread out and flat-topped in my plant? Or is that just a symptom of improper care on my part!

Is it etiolated though...? I saw several mini ones of these in a shop, and they all had the same two leaves either side with a longish stem...

I would add more perlite to increase drainage, making it about 50% of the mix - just MO. Plants in the shop could have been all etiolated.

How do you water? How much sunlight is it receiving?

If it is echeveria, it is very etiolated and also ale in color. There is always a chance I am wrong about ID...if so, someone will correct me.

I water once every two weeks and give it a good soaking, but not excessively. It gets indirect sunlight, on a window sill, from about 7.30-7ish here in the UK. I can't find anywhere better sadly.

Like Rina, I thought the first one is also a very etiolated frilly echeveria at first, but then I noticed the opposite leaves, LOL. So that ruled out echeverias. I would go with either Cotyledon, or even Crassula, and maybe Kalanchoe.

Sorry, I am obviously not paying attention (didn't even look at leaves!)...but even if cotyledon or another plant, I believe it could use more light?

I understand about lack of sunlight. Summers are good here for that, but winter days are short and dark. Using a light may help...

Jewel leaf is just a common name (I didn't hear that one yet). It may be best to learn proper scientific/botanical name.

Not much comes up when Googling 'jewel leaf' so really that's of no use, sorry to say.

The only Jewel related plant I know is Jewel Orchid & it's not that for sure.

Pls have patience & give it some more time for more IDs.

First thought of the first plant: an etoliated Cotyledon.

Pachyphytum oviferum moonstone sugar almond was what I thought too for the second one
