Key to Soil Mineralization may be ...
Comments (38)Special? It's widespread around here - it's our normal soil. That was extreme during the 2011 extreme drought, but yes, it does that. It's TX black gumbo clay. You'll find about the same stuff in parts of Montana and, believe it or not, Hawaii. Nearer the coast where humidity is higher the cracking isn't quite as severe, but it still will get impressive in the drought periods. When it's wet it swells enough to be self-sealing. Rice farmers love that. Building on it is a bit tricky. To dig it you want it moist and plastic, then you take it out in slices working near vertically using a rice shovel. The funny thing about our coastal area is that soil like that is the widespread stuff. But there are sizable pockets of very clean sand. It seems there is a commercial sand pit about every 10-20 miles, and in those pits there is no sign of that clay. There was one ~ 60 acres in size being worked for years about 5 miles from me. About 10 years ago the remains of a Columbian mammoth were found in the pit....See MoreIs Grout Shade an Important Color Element in a Room?
Comments (22)Grout IMO makes or breaks the best tile install. Do test boards. It's much easier to visualize and get it right than to to grout and then want to dig it out. FWIW, and this depends on how good your eyes are, but COLOR is key. Depending on budget, try 1-3 possible colors on your test boards. It may not be a cheap solution, depending on how much you are grouting.... I went through 6 tests, till I got the perfect one for my backsplash. Tried Brand A. Was not right. Tried Brand B. Was not right Brand C on the 6th try was the *perfect* match. COLOR will always differ between the big dogs. Laticrete, Mapei and my 3rd one - Starquartz...See MoreDuma Key by Stephen King?
Comments (12)I've read many of his books and short stories, and love many of them too. I'm not normally a big horror fan, with the exception of King, and so plenty of his stories are not horror at all. I particularly love the film adaptations of "(Rita Hayworth and the) Shawshank Redemption" and The Body, re-titled "Stand by Me." I don't feel compelled to read all of his books yet, though, 'cause I want to have lots to look forward to. I have read 20 or so: Carrie Salem's Lot The Shining Night Shift The Stand The Dead Zone Firestarter Pet Sematary Skeleton Crew The Bachman Books It Misery The Tommyknockers Four Past Midnight Needful Things Dolores Claiborne The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft Lisey's Story That leaves twice as many for me to read in the future: Rage The Regulators Blaze Duma Key Cujo Danse Macabre Roadwork Creepshow (comic book) The Dark Tower series I-VII Christine Cycle of the Werewolf The Talisman (written with Peter Straub) The Eyes of the Dragon Nightmares in the Sky (Photo book with text by King) Dark Visions The Dark Half Dolan's Cadillac My Pretty Pony Gerald's Game Nightmares & Dreamscapes (stories) Insomnia Rose Madder Umney's Last Case The Green Mile Desperation Six Stories Bag of Bones Storm of the Century The New Lieutenant's Rap Hearts in Atlantis Blood and Smoke (audio book) Riding the Bullet (e-novella) The Plant (e-novel) Secret Windows Dreamcatcher Black House (collaboration with Peter Straub) From a Buick 8 Everything's Eventual: 14 Dark Tales Faithful: Two Diehard Boston Red Sox Fans Chronicle the Historic 2004 Season The Colorado Kid Cell...See MorePhotoshop...Adobe Photoshop Elements 8...Opinions
Comments (17)I find Adobe products in general are very difficult to use...not intuitive at all. I'm a nurse...16 years in ICU using all sorts of monitors and equipment, so I don't consider myself a total dummy. I have been involved in Telephone Nursing for the past 16 years and have learned many programs to manage patient care and also to manage employees and projects. Everything I have learned has been in the office setting by osmosis or taught myself. I'm not an expert by any means, but I can catch on to programs and even write technical curriculum as needed...but Adobe...YIKES...it makes me crazy. I just had to learn a new program out of the Adobe Premier Pro CS3 over the last 2 days within a couple of hours. I built myself a guide with screenshots, but need to practice some more. Maybe after I get better with this video adaption program I will be able to use more elements in Photoshop...but I am a total hack in that program. I wish I had someone at home to show me how to use all these programs...I would be sooooo happy. But I can CROP damitall!!! LOL...See Moreplllog
