"Stuffing flavor?" Anyone know the key elements?

The stuffing I grew up with isn't exactly like other stuffings. There's a particular "stuffing flavor" that most of the stuffing other people make has. Well, too much salt is a given, as is sage. But what else?

I figured out last year that the thing that makes pizza flavor different from other Italian herb combos is marjoram. Yes, oregano, etc., but the marjoram makes the difference of whether it tastes like pizza, so I wonder if there's a key herb or something for "stuffing flavor".
