Our builder said that 'We don't normally install footing drains'
Comments (13)Our foundation isn't below the water table; we're just trying to make sure that the water stays away from the foundation & crawl space. Three directions from our house go very precipitiously downhill, but the the drive, which is bedrock  basalt  comes in from above and funnels down onto the south side the house. Some redirection has been done, but the bedrock is disinclined to be shaped or contoured. It would take quite an event for rainfall to be a real problem, but events do happen. (Basically, we're just trying to follow our stinkin' engineered drainage plan.) But the thing is, it IS right there in our engineered drainage plan. Our builder either blew it off or never looked, and that bothers me more than anything else. As you can tell, we don't know enough to take care of ourselves in this situation, and should barely be allowed out alone. It's a shakey feeling to be dependent upon the kindness of strangers (by which I mean the builder, not y'all.)...See MoreQuestion about short planks in wood flooring installation
Comments (12)Decided to go with a diagonal pattern since herringbone was not possible with the different lengths. However this is easier and I didn't have to do any cutting of the tongue to fit like I would have had to do for the herringbone. Now that I've gotten most of the longer planks in place, the ones around the perimeter is where I will use the varying lengths. Thankfully all of the widths are the same (6 in) and I will have to choose between 1, 3, and 4 foot planks. I may alternate the three to get the best look since I already have zigzags, maybe I should randomly stagger the perimeter. I'm excited to see how's gonna turn out. Any suggestions are welcomed. Thanks....See MoreDirection for our Vinyl Plank Flooring
Comments (9)I'm about to put floors in myself and I'm running them with the length of the home. I dont have cabinet grain to be concerned with (but I'm not really sure I would be) but my main reason for doing so was it is easier. If you run them the opposite way, the way you want them, you're going to end up cutting a bunch more boards down to size. If they run the length of the hallways rather than across you'll spend way less time cutting them down to size. Also, It just won't draw your eye out. It might make your spaces feel smaller because it chops the length of them down. Where as if the boards run from front door to back of house they'll carry your eye that direction and make it feel longer....See MoreHelp! Comments (12)If you haven't already paid for the installation, withhold payment. Call the remediation company, and put it in writing if you can also (memorialize the call in an email). They might direct you to someone at the flooring company, or, considering they have been contacting the flooring company on your behalf until now, they may take care of it themselves. If they are not helpful, call the insurance company. Peeing in front of you and not washing up--during a pandemic, no less--is absolutely grounds to never let him in the house again. Not to mention his unprofessional and abusive conduct. Don't be shy about putting your foot down, and don't compromise just because you've already had to wait a long time for this to be done....See Morebungaloonie
