Paint Dilemma with North Facing House with little light
Comments (6)Folks will scoff at what I'm about to say, but I tell ya - I had the exact same problem you're experiencing with a north-facing living room. I even tried some of the same colors as you did: I wanted a very light greige, but kept getting purple, mustard or green. And believe it or not, after weeks of frustration and tears, I abandoned SW and BM and ended up going with a Behr Marquee color. The color of the swatch was the same as the sample was the same in the paint can. I ended up with exactly what I was going for and it came out gorgeously! I look at them and appreciate and love them every day! Anyway, take that for what it's worth: and good luck!!...See MoreDilemma: Exterior house paint colors
Comments (7)I think your home is pretty eye-popping now, I would definitely be slowing my stroll to get a better look, but I can understand wanting a cheerier color if your environs tend to be pretty grey. The current color scheme does seem to suit the surroundings. Is there a color you are leaning towards? Would you want the whole house to be the same color or have color-blocking as you currently do? Are the windows to be painted? What colors are "cheery" to you? When I first saw your house a forest green came to mind....See MoreBrick home paint dilemma!
Comments (6)I wouldn’t paint it. You go from no maintenance to maintenance. Although the brick might not be your favorite, it is not offensive or in disrepair. I would change the trim color, that can be a whole other discussion. I would work on making the stairs and walkway more attractive. Landscaping will totally transform your curb appeal....See MorePaint color dilemmas on historic home
Comments (3)Yeah in an ideal world I would have thought about the front more before I did the back. But I do like the dark. Just thought oh I’d paint it up front then i realized how many different trim bits the front has and got overwhelmed. maybe it would be fine to paint the wooden screens of the front window and sashes of the bay in the gunmetal color and leave the window frames and rest of trim white. I just worry with the white window frames and dark sashes, along with the dark metal bits and dark shutters it’s too many dark pieces and it could get a bit busy. Hence, i thought maybe just leave the front street facing windows and trim white and maybe bring the gunmetal in on shutters only or something. It’s not unusual in my hood to see some windows a different color on different aspects of a house(for various reasons, some accidental, some intentional) so not something that I’m super preoccupied about....See More- 6 years ago
