Need Help For Master Bathroom Mirrors!
Comments (17)I would switch sink and those cabinets moving them them to sides with drawer units in center. Yes, I have 12" drawers in my bathroom vanity now ... and the reality is that I have only about 8" of actual storage space. The hardware on each side of the drawer eats up so much of the space. Actually, I'd go with one 27" sink in the middle and a stack of 25-26" drawers on each side ... which would garner you about 21-22" of storage on each side of the sink. And you'd have more counter space. I would put one sconce in center I'd think twice about the double-bulb sconces. Remember that they're set against a mirror, so they're going to feel like FOUR light bulbs. Of course, if they're on a dimmer, you're in complete control. Also, drilling a mirror for a sconce's placement is tricky, and the builder will charge you for that risk. If you were to go with pendant lighting, you'd get the same function with an easier /less expensive install, and it's easy to have the light shine right at "face height". Admittedly, pendants are less traditional. No, no ... moving the drawers to the middle is a good idea, but only if you make them into ONE wide drawer. If they stay teeny drawers, you're still losing all that storage space to the necessary hardware. If you can add the extra recessed lights definitely do so. Be sure these lights are hooked to a different switch. That means you can use JUST the sconces OR both the recessed lights AND the sconces ... after all, sometimes you want to LIGHT UP the room so you can do your make-up or clean, but other times you just want a small, soft light to help you to the toilet at night. Separate switches, especially separate switches on dimmers, give you better control....See MoreMaster bathroom mirrors and lighting
Comments (10)I have seen many sconces that match with single, double, and triple lights--same style, just single or multiple bulbs with a double (or triple) branch. Looking at your electrical box placements, though, for both vanities, it looks like you could use the same mirror for consistency but use up the extra wall space on the larger vanity by installing coordinating lighting with double-branch or wider sconces. I assume the larger vanity is for a person applying makeup and styling hair, so it would be nice to have extra lighting. I'm NOT a designer, so perhaps I'm off-base. You mentioned oil-rubbed bronze faucet/fixtures, yet I see brushed stainless cabinet hardware. Those look new. Will the mirrors have a metal frame or any metal hardware--what finish? Keep that in mind when selecting your mirror's and lighting's metal finish(es)--ORB or brushed stainless? Restoration Hardware offers a lot of single and double sconces in multiple finishes. Some look the same but are wider or more narrow, which might work for your bathroom. This style may be not what you like/look right, but here are examples: https://www.restorationhardware.com/catalog/product/product.jsp?productId=prod4370233&categoryId=cat10160023 https://www.restorationhardware.com/catalog/product/product.jsp?productId=prod1970010&categoryId=cat10160023 RH Wide Sconce RH Narrow Union Filament Sconce in Bronze (there is also a narrow "tall" version) They have many more traditional, industrial, or contemporary choices in various bulb configurations that match. I would, perhaps, consider sticking to brushed silver-toned faucets/towel rings since you have that on the hardware, already, and it would be easier finding a mirror to match. But, I know it's common to mix metals, so you should do what you like. (I'm doing all chrome in my Master Bath and chrome fixtures with aged brass lights and brass-colored cabinet hardware in my hall/kids' bath that has a navy vanity.) Good luck with your project--looks nice!...See MoreAdvice for new master bathroom mirrors and lighting??

Comments (3)I screwed up - it's a master bedroom and bath in the basement with walk out. You are 100% correct with the confusion. What I've decided to do is to have this be more of a "guest master bedroom" or future inlaw place. Every home is initially designed for the current occupant but also with future occupants in mind. Therefore what I'll do is focus on the upstairs primary bedroom and then if I do decide to stay, I'll give this to my soon to be teen-age daughter and I'll build my primary bedroom in the basement. When someone comes to look at the home to buy, they can look at the downstairs as a large "room" which could be a bedroom (staged as such) and an awesome bathroom ideally suited for a bedroom or just an awesome entertainment room....See Morewoodlands123
