Very small kitchen, need help in designing the work triangle
Comments (6)Sounds like a very promising project, and I love your 2 little verandas. Depending on the views out those windows/need for privacy, it might be really nice for the view from one side to the other to specifically be wide open there (blast the usual apartment expectations). But, you need to offer a to-scale drawing of what you are thinking, plus some details about how you live, how many of you, and how you will use the kitchen (usually microwave frozen food, passionate bread baker, etc.) etc. Without that, some people just don't post, others post a lot of stuff that's just plain impossible or undesirable....See MoreHelp me pick a light for over my piano!
Comments (6)a small chandelier or a pendant. you're free regarding the style. can be very trad echoing the allover space, can be modern echoing your very cool art, juxtaposing the room a bit. look at the tons of pics..you have so many cool possibilities here. when i was choosing lighting I created a couple of boards on Pinterest..a purely inspiration one, and a more practical one-lights that could actually work. then you cut the ones with wrong dimensions, high price(oh how sad and how easy lol)..then you try to understand what's between these like, what's love, what's short term infatuation. and that takes time. (well, or falling in love so hard you don't have time to think since it's an EBay auction or something. then you need to be sure and act fast). then you narrow it down. I used Pinterest but it can be anything that works for you. Pinterest's easier since it takes you back to the source. where you can -more often than not-double check the price, the dimensions, look at it again as much as you need. excited for you..it's hard to choose lighting yet the reward is great...See MoreHelp with Living/Front Room Design - Piano Type and what furniture?
Comments (19)This is not the ideal location for a piano, as far as the piano itself is concerned. However, it may be the only place to put one in the house. Add a nice big rug under it with strong padding to absorb vibrations. i wouldn't put it on the angled wall, it would get bumped by people coming in the door. It looks like a console-spinet-upright could go between the two windows on the outside wall. Me, I'd be uncomfortable playing with my back to the house (experience with sneaky siblings when we were kids lol), but your family may be comfortable, and it allows for placement of a couple of chairs on the wall where the passthrough is. Move the console table to the angled wall. You will want a cabinet or basket or something for music. A small sofa would NOT be the best choice; a couple of small "occasional" chairs and perhaps a chair from the dining room would be best. A baby grand would look nice tucked in the corner where the plant is. Maybe put plantation shutters on the pass-thru. Will a teacher come to the house, or will the students go to the teacher? Will other music be performed? I've seen local houses where the living room, which otherwise wouldn't be used, is the music room, with stands, music storage, and chairs, as well as instruments, ready for playing. Definitely consider plantaion shutters, sheers, or solar blinds on the windows to protect the piano. Will the digital piano stay? Or be moved? Beautiful floor!...See MoreDownsizing. Room for my piano and 2 desks in separate rooms? And TV?
Comments (13)When we moved from NY to Florida, we faced a similar problem. My husband was a classical pianist who had a concert grand. We had a large contemporary in NY, but were now downsizing to Florida. He decided we couldn't take his beloved Steinway and asked our daughter if she would like to take it for her home. She had a large home and he was always hopeful she or her two daughters might play. She agreed to take the piano. So, we hired Steinway movers to move it from NY to Connecticut. We moved to Florida and my daughter bought him a very expensive keyboard so he could continue to play piano. We made one of our bedrooms, in the Florida home, his office/music room. He used it occasionally, but it wasn't his concert grand!. He wound up volunteering for a large library in our area in their music archive area. The floor had a large, old Steinway which he played and helped young students studying music. It was a such a rewarding experience for him working with music majors. Much of his old sheet music was given to the archive. He missed his beautiful piano at home. But the house and its acoustics were not proper for such a large piano. He used the keyboard occasionally, but loved playing the piano at the library. Jane...See Morearcy_gw
