Our home is currently in the siding stage.

Here is a link to the plan:

The windows were trimmed out with composite and on the moisture barrier looked quite nice and popped as expected. You can see the lip on the top and it all looks nice. I assumed maybe it had been placed so the board and batten vinyl would slide behind the trim. Please take a look at the photos and let me know what some of my options are. I want to discuss with the contractor tomorrow.

In looking online there's a Fine Homebuilding article that seems it may would address the issue but I'm not sure. Here's the link to it for review after looking at the photos below: http://www.finehomebuilding.com/2009/09/22/8-ways-to-make-vinyl-siding-look-its-best

and here's a forum post on a similar topic:

OK now on to some photos and descriptions: Here is a photo of the window trimmed out with the composite before siding- this is around all the exterior windows and doors. I love the way it looks prior to the siding.

Once the siding was on however the vinyl trim that was installed around the composite trim was even or stuck out from it making it look recessed and made the lip at the top disappear.

You can see better in the photos below. It makes it look more like plain wood painted. The way the edges were done on the vinyl trim (J-Channel?) also take away and there are gaps between the j-channel and the composite which I assume may be filled in later, I'm not sure, it just isn't what I expected from what I saw initially.

In this photo the wood trim at the top is wrapped with aluminum but you can see on the right edge that it was cut too short and doesn't over all the way, the others do not do this. I haven't talked to the contractor about it but plan to tomorrow. In many areas the aluminum lips over the metal and leaves that small gap between the composite and the aluminum.

Thoughts on alternative methods or anything that can be done to help it that I can discuss with the contractor? Thanks!
