Hee, hate to say this..but you probably heard it before. This is like showing a fine picture of a kudzu or a japanese honeysuckle. While out for a dog walk two days ago, I was bemoaning how SAC is utterly all over town in any waste area (and the "natural" areas of parks). Some of it here smells sweet, some is rather offensive and tends to draw flies.

I do sympathize dbarron but in my neck of the woods it dies back right back to the ground and starts from scratch each spring. And this particular specimen, being in lots of shade, also holds it well in check.

(For me "Paul Farges" Summer Snow is much more....vigorous).

Yeah, I do appreciate how differently plants behave in different climates. I'm trying to coax a hedychium ginger into bloom (and it looks like coaxing has failed for this year). I can't leave it outside here, unlike people a zone farther south..and that pot is getting awfully big. How does your SAC smell? Pleasant or not ?

I think that a further advantage of growing this in the north is that it doesn't have time to ripen seeds, so it isn't the invasive pest that it is in more southerly areas. That said, I don't grow this clematis since I have C. virginiana growing wild here.

Sweet Autumn, not as spectacular a photo this season. I found a New way to use my pesky Maple tree this season. My Huldine(spelling) clematis is blooming now. I know it's a late bloomer but it was added this spring, not sure if this is too late for it. SA dies back to the ground here, I do find a new seedling every year but I do remove them, I have three of these in my garden and they do smell good.
