Countertop decision time! London Grey, Piatra Gray or Jet Mist?

In the midst of kitchen reno and need to make a decision on countertop this week. The kitchen has new hardwood floor and warm white cabinets. I had posted on GW previously about some countertop choices and have narrowed down to either a grey/black countertop (Caesarstone Piatra Gray, Jet/Virginia Mist) or a white/grey countertop (Caesarstone London Grey). We will likely sell our house in 5 years or so, I wanted something relatively neutral. I am still drawn to the London Grey for the soothing pattern and less upkeep on the light color compared to dark grey or black. But the all white kitchen gives me concern about lack of contrast. The granite yard did not have sample of jet mist, so the picture shows AB.

Comments (5)The backsplash will contrast nicely with your Pebble. I have just installed a marble backsplash with CS Piatra Grey and it works well, as the medium grey pulls out accents from the backsplash. I have a bit of bianco carrara in a ledge area and in a table. The island, however, is the same material as the perimeter. How big is your island? One thing to consider is remnants. I think there is one place in San Jose and Planet Granite (with an online search engine) out in Sac that are slabyards that specialize in remnants. Comments (30)I'm still interested, and I love it! The only thing I question is the ORB hardware. I would wait until you get it all in and then experiment with ORB and satin nickel. I like ORB (I used it for all my light fixtures and drapery rods), but I think I would like satin nickel better with your cabinets and marble. When choosing a backsplash tile, see if you can get a sample of the current stock of a tile before ordering it. Marbles vary a lot so that may save some disappointment. If you choose calacatta I think a larger tile (like 2" x 4") shows the dramatic veining a little better than mini bricks or a small square mosaic, although I like them all. Will you have the same paint color in the kitchen and the room with the fireplace? I'm not sure if I'd like a yellow around the fireplace, but it looks nice with all your kitchen stuff. The character of the wooden beams and wooden base cabinets bring such warmth and personality, it almost feels like the outdoors are coming in. I had looked under your name in the finished kitchens blog to see if you were there, really appreciate you sharing the photo. Your backsplash is so pretty, just the right amount of bling and lightness. Where did you find it? I'd like to do he same thing, with subway glass tile everywhere except right behind the stove, do arabesque there. If I had a kitchen like this, I'd want to cook a lot too. =) Love hearing that cleanup is easy with a stain resistant grout, that's a great tip, I'll be sure to ask for that too, Was it an epoxy grout?...See More

6 years agoI don't care for the black granites with the dark floor. Have you looked at Caesarstone Bianco Drift? I have a sample, and it's a very soft light gray and white with subtle brown lines, which would look great with the floor. Overall it reads gray.
