Wow that's cheap, I've never seen that kind of price! Good for people on tight budget who need to feed their family.

Personally, no, I am picky about my eggs and prefer the pastured ones, for both health and ethical reasons. The yolks are a deep orange color and they taste better to me. But they are expensive at $7 a dozen.

Alisande, wow, $1 a pound? They are around $4.99 here if you can even find them. I tried yesterday with no luck. Lucky you!

$2.39 in Canada. I bought 2 dozen today. I normally buy them where I work because they're cheaper even without my discount, but I'm on holidays and there's no way I'm going to work to shop. :)

I went to Walmart a couple of days ago, not even 1 egg was on the shelf. I guess, they couldn't stock up fast enough after Harvey.

Costco didn't have eggs after Harvey. Kroger did. I've never seen eggs $.38/dozen.

I shop Aldi for paper goods only and their eggs have been .27 a dozen for a while now.

That's odd. Our new Aldi's has eggs, but they're $.44/dozen.

I think a couple years ago eggs were over $2.50 per dozen, so any price under $1.00 per dozen egg-cites me!

My son and DIL acquired baby chicks this summer. I look forward to not buying eggs. :-)

Thanks for the heads up Glenda. The last time I was in Walmart was just before the July 4th weekend, that's when all the garden supplies get marked down. I purchased these "red" patio seat cushions/$9ea & 9' umbrella/$17! GREAT deals!

Eggs at my Walmart are 1.14 a dozen. I've never seen eggs cheaper except around Easter when they run about .79 a dozen.

ETA eggs are still an inexpensive source of protein. Once a month I will make veggie omlettes with cheese for supper, Am I correct that kids don't need another source of protein at supper if their having eggs?

Just cooked three hardboiled eggs. I get the expensive brown cage free ones. I usually eat one as part of lunch. There is a Wal-Mart express (groceries only) not far from my doctor. If I am in the vicinity, I usually stop in. There is no big Wal-Mart near me.

Just told friend and she's headed to WM for her 38 cent dozen large eggs.

California has higher standards for the treatment of egg-laying chickens than elsewhere. Cages can be used but they need to be larger than what's standard in the egg industry, thus, egg prices are higher no matter what.

Personally, I prefer cage-free, organic eggs as Scott describes. They taste better. They're more expensive than regular eggs all the same but the taste difference is more than worth it and, as mentioned, eggs remain an inexpensive food. Those in states without California's rules can all the same buy organic eggs and be sure the chickens have the best possible treatment, including the ability to spend time outside scratching in the dirt as chickens like to do.

Susan, when did you buy the cherries from Walmart? I haven't seen them anywhere this year for that price.

Unfortunately people have shown again and again that they are more concerned with prices than animal welfare, and the market knows that. I do what I can to support organic and humane practices, but it is expensive. I'm not trying to shame people who are concerned with value or are on tight budgets at all. I get it - feeding your kids is more important. I just think it's also important for people to be aware of where the trade off on cheap prices on eggs/meat/dairy come from, and to give it some thought next time there's a choice.

When we have to buy eggs at a store (rather than from friends with chickens), we buy organic. They're about $5/dozen and worth every penny. :)

I haven't bought eggs in a long time but just because one Walmart had a certain price doesn't mean all Walmarts are the same price. Just last week I had occasion to be in 3 different Walmarts on the same day and noticed the identical display in all three stores, each with a different price!

I buy egglands best eggs. We may pay a little more but they do taste better.

0.99 for large, 1.99 for "Jumbo" at Trader Joe's yesterday. I'll probably get a dozen at the farmer's market this weekend, they are usually $3/dozen.
