Comments (12)I concur with alot of these posters... Also what is the sun like in this spot, do you get less than 5-6 hours a day min of sun? Would be hard to grow most sun loving plants there. There is a # of plants that would do well. If you have really really heavy clay that drys out in the summer, forgot about growing anything. I hate clay as well, my veggie garden this year was dug out of a clay pit =). But doesnt sound as bad as yours, I added grass clippings, a cubic foot of peat moss a black bag of shredded and partially decomposed leaves, and a few wheel barrow loads of compost mix. I then turned everything over by hand to about 8-12 inches deep. Seemed to work so far. (I also put a few handfulls of potting soil under each plant or seed I dropped in) If all else fails dig up all of the clay as you can down at least two feet or something like that, add a mixture of bagged top soil mixed with peat/sand/grass clippings, partially decomposed humas such as leaf mold. Ive done this with some beds, it works well enough to grow most items....See MoreNeed help changing ISP mail password in Outlook 2000.

Comments (5)You talk about needing more space for circulation, but not really more prep space. So I think a major question for you is how much you care about keeping seating at the island. Given the width of the room, you need to choose between seating and storage on the "south" wall. If you really want island seats, then go with decoenthusiate's plan, but put the range where your current sink is, the fridge where the range is, and a prep sink at the short end of the new longer island. If you can skip island seats, go with decoenthusiate's full plan, with an awesome pantry wall on the "south" side of the kitchen. And if you decide to go "budget," just replace island seating with 12" deep cabinets on the island back side, remove the wing wall to make more room for the breakfast table, and expand the current coat closet into a pantry closet that spans the entire wall....See MoreUser
