Comments (4)I have seen glass tiles used in floors -- but I don't believe every glass is floor-rated. I'd call around to try to find one that is, or else maybe introduce a third material -- maybe a slate? In the shower, you could run your tile up toabout the 48" mark, then have an accent strip made of glass and tile pieces. There are so many different design possibilities! Look for some pieces called 'cigar rails' or 'half-rounds' to use as border strips. You can find them in glass and a variety of natural stones. You may also be able to mix a natural or man-made composite 'travertine' into a border and carry it off, even though your tile is ceramic. Another option would be metal tiles. Those could tie into your fixtures and hardware and be mixed with the glass as well....See MoreBasement shower/wet room-ideas & kerdi?
Comments (1)I know some folks do this sort of shower with a toilet in it, let me tell you why I wouldn't: I think the toilet would be constantly damp and covered with water spots. Unless you have extremely soft water with no minerals and you only use liquid soaps [generally clean rinsing] and banned most hair products, I think you'd need to get on your hands and knees to dry the toilet after every shower. And remember: a curbless still needs to be lower than the surrounding floor, so the shower either has to be carved into the slab, or the slab will need to be raised. In the process of designing my house, I came up with all sorts of creative ideas to resolve space planing dilemmas. Some worked and I kept them; more didn't, and I had to keep thinking. For me, this would be in the 'keep thinking' column....See Moredo I need to add accent tile to shower's white subway?
Comments (8)I'm also doing a similar color scheme in my daughter's bathroom. For accent, I am using a gorgeous Calacatta marble mosaic only in the niches (shower shampoo niches, and one recessed into the wall next to the vanity.) It's the same tile I used for the niches in my master bathroom, which has all white glass on the walls. Since it's on a vertical surface (just the back walls of the niches) cleaning isn't so much a concern. We've had it in the master bathroom for about 9 months and no problems at all. We are using marble pieces for the shelves, so the horizontal places where soap/shampoo might build up are easy to clean. You could also just use the subway tiles for the perimeters. I think this is a nice way to keep the wall tile simpler but also add a bit of interest and bling without getting too busy. Do you have a link to your pictures? I'm sure it's here, I just can't find it. What I see above, I love your fire and ice and I'm sure your whole kitchen is beautiful. gozalyn - have you finished yet? I've saved your kitchen as an inspiration, but would like to see more. I love the countertop with the F&I and the ORB faucet and cafe silgranit sink. BTW, what are your cabinets? I know you mentioned it is slow going because of your little one and having to work on it late at night. morton5 - I saw your fire and ice on your post about removing some tiles. Your kitchen is very beautiful and I like Jodi's suggestions. I think I'm totally addicted to this website. I don't know how I'll ever incorporate in all the things I love into our future kitchen!! Tough choices are obviously ahead....See Morethatsmuchbetter
