Very, very nice garden rain in Atlanta tonight
Comments (9)We had a light rain this afternoon for about 2 hours, and I mean light. Tonight when I went to bed it started again but didn't last long. First moisture we have had in 3 moths here in central SD. Just enough to settle the dust. I thanked God for it though and prayed for more....See MoreTonight sure different from last night
Comments (1)Yep, comforter weather last night. I even shut the bedroom window which I hardly ever do. Woke up this morning to a soppy mess outside, but I didn't hear it rain at all. I'm glad I got all the yard mowed yesterday. Winter is when we tend to lose power the most, ice bringing down the lines, ect. Not fun when it's nine days or more. All those affected by the storms and floods are in my thoughts....See MoreHouston Harvey check-in
Comments (16)I'm sure this is the worst flood in Houston history, but I fear that it could happen again, due to the rising temperature of the ocean and Gulf. It even surpasses the 1979 flood when 43" of rain fell on Brazoria County, and that flood was not as widespread. I was in Houston from 1968 to 1972 while I was at Rice, and most of that time I lived on campus, but I did live on Hawthorne Blvd between Yoakum and Mt Vernon for one year. Howard Hughes grew up on Yoakum a couple of blocks from where I lived. A couple of times when my parents came to visit me, they got stranded by high water in streets, but they had taken the wrong streets. I also remember Hurricane Carla from 1961. Damage from this flood probably exceeds Hurricane Katrina, and it was dubbed the storm of the century - a title which lasted twelve years, I guess. And the Galveston hurricane of 1900 killed almost three times as many people as Katrina. I'm very happy that you were able to keep dry and I know it will take a long time to deal with the devastation around you. People here talk about earthquakes and say they are waiting for "The Big One" as if there will only be one big one, when in fact there are many big ones. They should instead say "the next big one" and understand that once a big one has happened, another big one can happen afterwards. I think the same is true with floods and hurricanes - if it can happen once, it can happen again, and that's why it's so important to be prepared....See MoreHarvey flood person - need kitchen remodel help
Comments (23)I'm very sorry about your Aunt's home! Between Harvey, Irma, and now Maria, so many people have been devastated! It seems like everyone I know has at least one relative or friend affected by one of these hurricanes (including me -- my niece & colleagues by Irma.) Regarding the designs above, I like MamaGoose's the best. It eliminates one corner and gives your Aunt better work space in general where she needs it the most. It also minimizes wasted counterspace that narrows the usable Kitchen floor space (which also makes it a bit tight and, possibly, claustrophobic). There's also more space to move around and allows more than one person in the Kitchen without someone being trapped, which is important in a Kitchen. The portable cart is a nice idea....See More- 6 years ago
