Can you help me decide what brand(s) of paint to use?
Comments (3)I can tell you what not to use and that is BM....The interior trim paint is terrible....will not lay down....looks like painted with steel bristle brush......Took three coats to cover on some colors....My garage doors (6) has got to be repainted as they were beige to match the vinyl trim and now they are faded to a light green.....I changed to Porter paint halfway through the painting and very happy with it. The BM dealer wouldn't even come look at my problem........See MoreHelp me Decide What Colors to Paint My House. Photos
Comments (15)Just a warning on white. It does not hold up on the brick well and I have found it looks bad after a while. Grey, that looks nice and holds up well. there is a home decorating forum on here under "that home site" and they do a lot of photo-shopping of ideas including house exteriors. I posted my house on there and they did it in about 15 versions which included the landscaping. You might want to try them and if they help post a link on here so we can go see. I have included the link to my house. the thread is old so you will notice that a lot of photos are missing. Scroll down and you see many ideas they contributed although the best ones are missing.. Here is a link that might be useful: they helped me with my house...See MoreHelp me decide on cab color
Comments (13)have you tried any stain brands outside of HD brands? I can sympathize with you on your DH feeling that just HD will have what he needs. My DH was never a believer in paint brands making a big difference until the other weekend when we decided to FINALLY paint the outside of the house. I told him I wanted to look at either BM or SW paints. Since there was a SW right up the road (right next to the diner he wanted to go to for lunch) we went in there. AND... since he hates hates hates shopping we just bought it there. He couldn't believe how well it went on and the great coverage. Maybe if you went into SW or somewhere else and if you found the perfect stain color just bought it and brought it home to try? As an FYI to all.... my DH just asked the clerk in the store for a contractors discount and we saved $13 a gallon. As an alternative... since tedebar suggested about the gray undertone in stain to counterbalance the orange (thanks for that... love learning new things); have you try mixing some Minwax stains yourself to come up with a color you love? Maybe adding a tad of an ebony color would bring you up to the color you want?...See MoreCab doors are in and I'm considering switching. Help me decide!
Comments (126)Without turning this into a meta-discussion, on GW there is generally an unwritten piece of etiquette that once a major decision has been made, people will refrain from further disagreement, no matter how vehement the disagreements had been up to the point of the final decision. And I don't know, I disagree that it's never too late to make a change. Sometimes it becomes extremely impractical or too expensive to make a change. And even if money is no object, there are other people to think about here. I know someone who made several fabrications of slip matched doors for a client who changed their mind a couple of times regarding the configuration of cabinets underneath. When they wanted to change again, the client said "and don't worry we will pay for it again" the fabricators told them they didn't care if the clients would pay for it again, they weren't doing it again, because it was wasteful of materials, and they had other jobs waiting for other people and they were getting tired of doing this one. Ultimately there is no single correct answer for a decision like this, and I don't think anyone in the beginning of the discussion thought that walnut would be wrong. But walnut being elegant and high end doesn't really mean that the ribbed door is a bad choice....See Morerantontoo
