It happens every spring
Comments (5)Yep, dry ditches are now running rivers and farm fields have geese swimming on them. Spring in Ohio, gotta love it! (Actually, what I love are my Raised Beds that rise above the muck that is my yard!) We haven't planted anything out yet, though. I've been burned before by letting Mother Nature fool me with warmth several weeks before LFD. Good luck with yours! Edie...See MoreIt Happens Every Summer
Comments (9)I want to thank Al for bringing this to my attention... it's a lovely Charisma! And, I'd like to thank Karen for sharing her beautiful hippeastrum blooms with the rest of us! You should pop over to the Amaryllis/Hippeastrum forum for more gorgeous flower photos... and tons of great culture information on these wonderful bulbs! It's a bit slow right now, but as fall begins, the conversations pick up pace, and the photos begin! I can promise you a world of bulb photos unlike anything you've ever seen! I am also in zone 5, Central Illinois... I began with one lowly Minerva bulb, and have since collected over 50 different varieties, including some species! Growing and breeding them has become quite a wonderful hobby for me, and for lots of other people around the world! We're a friendly group, always happy to share information and photos of the bulbs we love so much! Come join us! Al has been so helpful, and from him, I've learned a lot about how to keep my hippeastrums healthy and growing strong! Hippeastrums are great houseplants... and once you learn how easy they are to grow and re-bloom, they can easily get under your skin! My collection continues to grow... you could say I'm completely addicted to them... and always happy to enable others to become hippeastrum lovers, too!...See MoreWhy does this happen every year??
Comments (2)Well :I am growing fig trees at this location for 15 years, yet my oldest fig is only 5 years old? You know Why:Because I had problems like yours on more than one fig tree, and I discarded them and looked for other varieties. You was waiting too long to get rid of it. Get rid of it right now is my advice to you,and ask on our forum that someone send you a real fruitting fig,of course for a fee. Today I have at least a dozen fig cultivars that are reliabelly fruitting wonderfull tasting figs every year. If I was waiting 15 years ,I will have what you have, today. Comments (3)Hi Brian, Go ahead and feed the trees as usual. Even though it may seem like they are wet and saturated, the mix is so fast draining and your perched water level is not a problem. So i would go ahead a feed as usual, i wouldn't make it stronger just because it is wet. The roots will take up the essential nutrients from the feeding. I always water first anyway before i feed so that the mix will hold onto the FP. I mix in the growing season a little under two teaspoons per gallon, then i reduce it during the fall. Some say not to fertilize during the fall and winter. I still give my trees that are active 1 tsp per gallon when they are growing under lights. Hope this helps.. I wouldn't worry at all about feeding with the rain. Just feed when its not down pouring . You would be amazed at what the roots take up at the feedings. No worries.. : ) Laura...See Morephyllis__mn
