Subway tile to match white dove cabinets and trim?

Hello all - after the LED recessed lights were installed I think we'll go back to white dove for cabinets and trim- simply white seems too stark. I'm hung up on fearing that white subway tile will now clash with the cabinets. Will it? I really don't want dark or colored tiles. Thoughts or ideas most appreciated! Thank you.

White Dove is more yellow, creamier than Simply White. It depends on the subway tiles your using. Some are more white, some are creamier. All the elements in a white kitchen don't have to match exactly, they just need to go together. If White Dove looks good with your tile, I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks Lori. I know they don't have to match totally but I'm hung up them clashing. In the Remodelista book I see kitchens with what looks like a creamier white subway tile - I'm going to have to look harder locally to see what I can dig up. I could just be blinded by the lights, lol, and maybe the simply white will grow on me again! It seems to be the best match for the daltile subway tiles I have.

White can be very tricky. Do you have a sample piece that you can bring around with you? Also when you zero in on a white, try to get a sample board or order as many samples as you can so you can line them up. I installed a white crackle that showed a greyish cast. We tore it out and replaced it with another tile. I have Dove White cabinets but my granite is giallo ornamental(long story) not the best choice with the Dove White. Your soapstone will blend in with whatever white you choose. But you need to look at it at various times of the day and with your lighting. I got advise from various tile stores. Some are better than others but they will help steer you. Also, have you check the Finished Kitchen Blog? Good luck!

I have dove white cabinets but my backsplash coordinates with my granite. I used Grascia Rixi in cream. Everything will depend on how much natural light you have as well as the lighting you install. So, there really won't be a stock answer. I agree with the above poster, start getting samples and view them throughout the day. No light on, lights on during the day and lights on at night.

lindsjoyr, did you already paint one cabinet or is that a sample up there? I too think the dark cabs are so pretty with your appliances. If it were me, just grout and then live with it. If you want to paint cabs later, then go for it. (And hide the white coffee grinder ;-)). You have fab appliances and the backsplash is beautiful and classic and will be easy to clean.... You did a beautiful job!

Good luck. I'm just wrapping up a remodel of a condo we own - tile shopping was brutal but I did notice two different colors of subway tile. One was bright white and the other was more off-white. Floor and Decor has the bright white. If I remember correctly, Arizona Tile had the creamier tiles.

What is your granite? You might be able to do something other than white.
