Stayed up until 7 am this morning watching videos on youtube and reading. Just woke up. I have two library books I need to finish before the end of this week so today I'll probably spend today reading and puttering around the house. Can't do much with my painful ankle/foot.

I may go out later and trim some bushes out front, they're getting a little overgrown. My son dug up the remnants of a vine (roots and small amount of green growth) I had been trying to kill for years out front. I'm so excited, it's been covered in black plastic for 3 or 4 years now, but still it lived on. Going to finally plant flowers there next year if it's actually gone.

Going to read the news now and have breakfast. Worried about all those down south with the hurricane and rains.

Hi Kathsgrdn, well I hope your foot and ankle feels better soon. Thats good news that your son managed to get rid of the vine, hopefully you can have some beautiful flowers there next year. I'm not much of a gardener I actually don't like outdoor work but it has to be done. My adult sons do a lot for me since hubs got sick last summer and its a huge help.

I did some running around and found my 9yo a bookbag so glad that ordeals over than stopped at the grocery store. I'm done for the day with anything too taxing other than doing some laundry which I love and cooking dinner which I don't love. Haha.

I hope you have a relaxing rest of the day and enjoy your book.

Hi, Glad to hear your son was able to (hopefully) rid you of the unwanted vine. My DH is out of town for the weekend, so I've puttered on and off in my woodshop most of the day. As I'm still recovering from my Stem Cell Transplant, I tire easily, so rest for a bit every couple of hours. It is still s-o-o-o-o-o good to get to spend time on my hobby again. Reheating leftovers for dinner, so other than walking the dog again later, I'm done being active. I'll surf or read tonight. Glad to have you back.

woodrose, the Kentucky Governor's cup (and the Tennessee Governor's cup) is always awarded at Contest of Champions, at MTSU. That's the "state" I was talking about. I assume there are other contests and awards given. mama, there's a white supremacist rally that has descended on Shelbyville/Murfreesboro this weekend. 1) they're erring on the side of caution for the sake of the children, and 2) I THINK they want the MTSU campus police to help out since activities on the square are in such close proximity to the campus.

mmmmmmmm.....steak sounds gooooood! the mamo...not so much....lol Just got a call from a medical insurance salesperson, not Obamacare, so it carries a penalty, which she says has not gone into effect yet. I paid it last year! She said Trump has halted all penalities until further notice. lol She was lying & using scare tactics to create a sale.....so frustrating to hear that. "For 2015, the penalty for no health insurance is $325 per person or 2% of your annual household income – whichever is higher. For 2016, the fee is $695 or 2.5% of your income — whichever is higher. I was not feeling well for most of last week- a virus that turned into bronchitis which is very hard on me because I have asthma. All is well enough now, so I am back to gabbing away at the KT. I missed everyone :-) Rob, I had a terrible itching reaction to a sulfa drug many moons ago- it's awful. I hope you feel better soon. Kath, Four hours at the dentist?? My mouth aches for you. Yuk. Mama pinky, Aren't great parent teacher conferences the best things ever? There is nothing better than seeing your child meet his potential. I am going to offer a bit of unsolicited advice, because I learned this lesson a bit late in my parenting journey- I hope you don't mind. Carol Dweck from Stanford suggests we only reward effort and perseverance- never outcomes. A lot of bright children hardly need to study to do well in the young grades and are used to being praised for their results. Once they reach a stage where they need to study, they have not developed very good study skills and their self image is tied up in being a good student, so they are a bit stuck and often give up. Dweck popularized this theory when it was too late for me to learn from it. You should have seen the auditorium full of parents of late elementary/ middle schoolers when she spoke about this. We were all devastated at not having done a very good job. If I were you I might consider a special dinner or dessert with a "toast" to how well the boys stayed on top of their work and turned in their assignments and add anything meaningful you know about- like when Chip or Tim helped some one else learn, or struggled and learned something, etc. Motivation is a tricky thing.

Good afternoon :-) Great find Nicole. DH brings not very exciting stuff home for me like fence material and things like that. Much appreciated but not very fancy even though it is free :-) he gets it on his job sites. When they are throwing stuff away they ask him if he wants it. I'm here having pizza with my husband. well sort of. he got a business call so I'm talking to you. My view outside the window is one of a traditional Vancouver gray rainy day. You can see me often with whole over layer of wool, hat, gloves, sweater, with a down vest,. Also a thin Merino wool underlayer which you can't see of course, and wool socks. I walk dogs as part of my living so wool keeps me warm even when I'm wet. I have to go and make a call about my accounting software today yuck. Then it's time to make chicken curry dinner. Happy Thursday all :-).

Hello Everybody!

ND is cloudy, damp, and cool today.

I just made 1/2 gallon of hummimgbird nectar. It can cool while I shower and dress (not getting around much today) and then I'll go out to replace the old feeders with clean, freshly filled ones.

I have one feeder in the north neighbor's yard; one in the east neighbor's yard; two in my bird feeding tree; and one on a hook by my sewing room window.

Now that the migration has started, I'll set another hook in the tomato garden just outside the kitchen sink window.

I've learned the more feeders I can spread around, especially if the birds can't see all of them at once, the less fighting I get and we all get to enjoy many more hummers.

Thus time of year I normally make 1/2 gallon of nectar twice a week.

caroline94535, I wish my hummingbirds only needed 1/2 gallon of nectar twice a week. I have been making 1 gal a day since May, the most I have ever made for this length of time. A few have left but not enough to stop my daily routine. Love the little guys but I can't tell you just how much sugar this household has gone through this summer. It has been fun watching hubby hanging the feeders this past week as I could not do it. Last year they did not leave till the end of Sept, so we shall see.
