Another cold, rainy day. Blah. Have to work this evening. I bought a couple sweaters from Elder Beerman yesterday, washed them. One of them nearly fell apart. I washed them in cold water, on gentle cycle and the one lost a button and has some unraveling in a couple places. So am taking it back. I may check out the men's section when I'm there. Just walking through it yesterday, you could tell their sweaters are thicker and hopefully better made.

Kathsgrdn, last month while at the thrift store shopping for Halloween costumes, I saw nice sweaters for men and women very reasonably priced. I plan to go back to get some. Don't know how you feel about used, but some are good quality.

In the deep of winter I can often be found wearing a pair of old flannel pj bottoms and one of hubs sweaters with wool socks.

I was sitting in my library doing a crossword puzzle when I heard a loud bang outside. I immediately thought there must have been an accident down on the state route, or someone may have hit my mailbox. Got up and walked to the big picture window and a red van is in the left lane of my road, speeding up, as it left, I saw an Amish buggy upset in the ditch in front of my house! The van continued on, barely stopping at the stop sign and turned right onto the state route. I hurried and got my phone and dialed 911 as the Amish man and lady were crawling out of the buggy. She climbed up the embankment, he went to the horse. The horse was on it's side motionless at first, then began squirming but couldn't get up. The 911 operator asked me the usual questions and also if I saw which direction the van went. Meanwhile a good Samaritan in a pickup had stopped to help. So I go outside to comfort the lady, who was not hurt. Neither was her husband. In fact I was more shook up than she was! Their groceries had spilled out of the buggy, the left rear wheel was bent. The man worked to get the harness off the horse, which to me looked to be in distress. oh my gosh. I was worried I was going to have to witness a horse being put down. The pickup driver and the Amishman finally got the harness and bridle off the horse and the horse struggled to its feet - unharmed. He tied it to one of my trees in the yard. Squad came, asked their questions, I told them what I knew, altho I confessed to not seeing the actual impact. BUT - there was red paint on the wheel! All three of us heard the EMT say, "We got the van, it was stopped". Well, when the State Patrol got there, he told us they did NOT have the van responsible. In fact because we couldn't give a license plate number, "There is very little we can do". Oh man. Well I've seen this van plenty of times going up and down my road, he said look for damage and try to get a plate number. I doubt the driver will be using that van for a long while! In the end I was able to phone a neighbor who hauls Amish and she made arrangements with another hauler who had a long enough horse trailer to load the horse and the buggy and take the Amish couple home. I invited the couple to wait in my house because it was so cold. About 45min later they were safely on their way back home. whew. I don't think I'd be very good in an emergency, I was nearly in tears while talking to 911! lol

woodrose, the Kentucky Governor's cup (and the Tennessee Governor's cup) is always awarded at Contest of Champions, at MTSU. That's the "state" I was talking about. I assume there are other contests and awards given. mama, there's a white supremacist rally that has descended on Shelbyville/Murfreesboro this weekend. 1) they're erring on the side of caution for the sake of the children, and 2) I THINK they want the MTSU campus police to help out since activities on the square are in such close proximity to the campus.

Mamma Pinky, No, he can not eat anything very thin, so he says. He can not get it in his mouth, will not use a smoothy straw even for that. Won't eat any other kind of cooked cereal, won't eat mashed potatoes with lots of gravy or broth to make it smoother. He will eat puddings, sometimes with small pieces of cake soaked into it. Won't eat any Jello. Will eat candied sweet potatoes with lots of syrup and mashed well. I do put eggs, milk, butter, bananas, cheese and such at different times in his oatmeal just to vary it. I don't even know if he tastes his food. Sometimes ice cream on top of the oatmeal. He does eat applesauce and he gets 4 nutritional drinks a day. Drinks some water and that is it. This has been going on for 3 years now. He has gotten worse since the stroke, because he would not continue his speech therapy. Speech and swallowing are sort of linked together, the muscles that is. So, that is the way it is. His speech is so terrible, most of the time I can not understand him. This was his second big stroke. He can not maneuver stairs very well, so twice a day I carry his meals up to him. He only wants to eat twice a day. We live in a bi level home, my kitchen, dining room and family room are down below. Living room and bedrooms up on the upper level, which is also ground level. I am sure there are many on here that have had to deal with a stroke patient. It also affects the mind. Sue

It's raining again today and expected to rain for the weekend and into Monday. Rain forests do rain very well. Sad news. Still no sign of my cat. Chilli disappeared Monday night and it appears he's gotten in some kind of bad trouble. We're heartbroken as we lost our other cat 2 months ago as well. River was a feral but was coming in and going for walks with us, Chilli and the dogs all the time for 6 months. I'm afraid he got killed by the wildlife here. Chilli never stayed outside at all but he was here then wasn't. No one saw him go. I called and called... I haven't been sleeping.

Right now, I'm wearing a pair of men's sweat pants with a cute rhino embroidered on the thigh. Cute enough for women's wear. lol

A woman sold her house, closing is tomorrow & several items she was trying to sell DIDN'T. So she just gave them away on CL. I got an LG portable AC unit!!!!!!! OMG! She'd used it July & August, it's brand new! She gave me the warranty paperwork to register it, I did...& remote control. It cools 400sq ft

This was last night, that I got it....after DH brought home ALL that kitchen stuff. I'm still pinching myself....just incredible!

Great find Nicole. DH brings not very exciting stuff home for me like fence material and things like that. Much appreciated but not very fancy even though it is free :-) he gets it on his job sites. When they are throwing stuff away they ask him if he wants it.

I'm here having pizza with my husband. well sort of. he got a business call so I'm talking to you. My view outside the window is one of a traditional Vancouver gray rainy day.

You can see me often with whole over layer of wool, hat, gloves, sweater, with a down vest,. Also a thin Merino wool underlayer which you can't see of course, and wool socks. I walk dogs as part of my living so wool keeps me warm even when I'm wet.

I have to go and make a call about my accounting software today yuck. Then it's time to make chicken curry dinner. Happy Thursday all :-).

It was a chilly, overcast day here as well. Rained just a bit in the afternoon.

I decided to make a trip to Lowes to see how much their sale was on Fall bulbs. It was 25% off as of today. They have a bunch leftover and I bought another bag of daffs and two bags of crocus. After I planted the last batch, I said I was through but here I go again. Had to check the bags carefully tho for withered bulbs. A man made a remark to me as he entered the store (bulbs are just inside), "Better get those in before the ground freezes". November is still ok, you can even plant in early December if need be.

Tomorrow I have a doc.appt before noon, just a follow-up. I don't like going to the doctor for any reason. :(

Today was a subbing day for me. Good day! The 6th grade students read and took notes about how the geography of ancient Greece influenced the development of the Greek culture. After school, several school friends and I walked a circuit around the school for 30 minutes.

First sunny day we have had in almost a week. Got to 50 degrees. Closed up the back screened porch for the winter. Put sheets over the furniture, vacuumed, closed the glass on all the windows, and brought in outdoor umbrellas. Summer seems to have gone by so fast. Won't open porch again until mid April or so.

Kathy, if you are looking for a warm cardigan, have you considered a Columbia fleece jacket. Or would that be too casual for your work environment?
