Lightening up a dark kitchen: Paint suggestions
Comments (11)Very true--I know there are a lot of whites out there. I do like the look of all white kitchens and the possibilities of having a very neutral wall to work with for artwork/window treatments. I don't think I would want to try to match the cabinets, and I am wondering if it is possible to introduce a warmer white. The "Grey Orchard" floor tile does have a lot of color variability--it is not a flat gray. The Pratt & Lambert Nickel reminds me of Sherwin Williams Evening Shadow, maybe? A gray that reads like a blue in certain light? I have that in my bedroom and bath in my non-beach home and love it....See MoreHow would you lighten this dark area up?
Comments (17)Kathi Steele, it seems like our comments crossed. I do have white washing in mind. I think I also got the answer about what the surround is that functionthenlook also suggests painting. Black is a good idea. It's not very big, maybe 15 x 15. I don't think we've figured out what to use it for exactly. It looks like a den, but we won't be putting a screen up anywhere. We do want to use the fireplace. So it will probably just be an extra chill-out sit-down space for reading/listening/chatting or alone time for two or three people at a time. There's a much bigger, brighter open space to the left where all the light is coming from where I expect bigger groups to gather for parties and such....See MoreISO: paint suggestions to lighten up a room with dark wood paneling
Comments (25)Thank you Betsy! I really do love the aesthetic of Studio McGee. I've been using their work as inspirational images. I also appreciate your suggestions for the stairs and the beams. Now my question is what should we do about the color in the rest of our house? Can we keep it the same and fine a white that will go with it or do we have to paint everything else as well?...See More1928 Tudor: Paint? Accent? ...to lighten up dark antique living room?
Comments (1)Do you have any inspiration photos? What kind of mini-events? It looks like you are in the middle of rearranging things. If you want advice on decluttering, just start a new post. Here are three ways to brighten up the space: -prune trees and shrubs that may have overgrown the windows -add floor lighting in corners with $25 can lights pointed up to highlight the walls and woodwork. -replace small plug-in wall lights and ceiling lights with larger statement pieces, either new or refurbished. A grand chandelier will set the stage.
