New question - what size should my area rug be?
Comments (63)Oooooh, I like that!! We had window benches in our last home and that was a favorite spot for the kids. This one won't have the lovely window light, but I could see it being a good use of space! The only tricky thing is that I had tentatively planned to put 2 barn doors here... my thinking is if the room happens to be a little messy or we need quiet from the rest of the house we could close it off. (Please ignore the mess that is there at the moment!!) But if we did the built in, obviously we couldn't do barn doors. That might be fine though. I really like that bench you posted! But how would we recess the shelves? I guess you just build out and it creates the recess? I need to show my husband that picture. Do you think there's enough room for it? The wall that you see there to the right of the opening is 42" from the back wall to where the trim begins. And the length of the wall is 76". A chaise was one of my choices... this one that I like is out of stock, and I'm debating how useful it would be for more than one person. Whereas the built-in you showed could easily fit both my younger. Thanks so much for your ideas!! Do you think there's space for the built in nook idea? I really love that!...See MoreWhat size rug should I be aiming at for my bedroom?
Comments (16)Thank you all! We definitely prefer wool -- I wasn't seriously considering the amazon one, except it was a shaggier type which I liked. We may indeed go with the wool one. Thank you for the feedback to go larger! And yes...we will be orienting this rug wide not long -- but we are just going to do it when we get the new rug, since I don't like the heavy dark colors in our already dark bedroom. Re: "unmade bed"...not sure if that was a joke or a jab....that bed was made, by our standards -- not as tidily as usual maybe, but honestly some days we're lucky *anything* gets done around the house, given the toll full-time demanding jobs, kids, commutes, and everything else can take on our time. I did apologize for the untidy look of the room, but I'm not sure why someone felt the need to leave such a comment in a forum that is intended to be supportive. All others, thank you so much for your help!! Very much appreciated. We're planning to get the rug in a few weeks, and I'll be sure to post updated pics here....See MoreWhat size tile to get for my kitchen renovation?
Comments (5)prefer the lighter 4 by 12 selection. in your space I dont think you need anything besides a solid cream color glazed ceramic.......in . creamy white to cream. Even the one shown has a lot of yellow and some veining...I'd get closer to a white ...but creamy white....... Cabinets are first class and the counter now is an element w the pattern........backsplash is better very plain. should be easy....See MoreRunner rug size for kitchen
Comments (6)Do you have a picture of your space? I'd do one up to the full length of the island, and measure 3"-4" in from where the cabinets end, so you have good width but can still see floor. It probably would feel better on your feet to have it scooted more toward the sink, so your feet aren't halfway on rug. But probably looks better in pictures to have it centered. :) I love a wool rug in he kitchen, and you can find many off sizes of vintage rugs on Etsy. Here's mine that I found on Lulu & Georgia. I had a vintage wool from an estate sale in the kitchen before we remodeled, but it didn't fit afterward. I think this one looks too narrow. Too wide but I like the length; you'd be able to see it from the other side of the island. But it also looks thin--see how the edges are curled up a little bit--there's Patricia's tripping hazard. This looks like a good size and material....See MoreRelated Professionals
