What size rug for my foyer?

We've been in our new house for several months now and I've been using an old throw rug in front of it. I can't decide not only on color, but size.

Here's some pics. This one has tape marking the corners of what would be a 3' x 5' rug.

This one shows tape marking approx. 5.5' x 7.5' It would come out almost to the edge of the chest that's in the foyer and be as wide as the door opening.

And as for color of rug--here's a view from the foyer into the family room:

I have a lot of colors going on, so I worry about the rug adding too much more (ignore the print on the chest--hubby propped it there for lack of a better place to put it for now). The DR to the right of the door is "eggplant", and the study on the opposite side is moss green. The foyer and family room color is SW Blonde. The ceiling of the family room is a "spice" color. I found a "spice" rug at both TJMaxx and Home Depot that might go well. I'm thinking that might be the best color?

Definately the larger rug, to unify the three doorways and create flow into the space.

As for color, I would think some type of oriental-style rug would work well with the more formal feel of your space, and you should be able to find something with all your colors in it.

Don't know if you would consider a round rug there, which might be a nice compliment to the curved glass in your entry doors.

From the pictures, it looks like the small rug will be in front of only one french door of the room closer to the front door, and the larger will be in front of only one door of the other room? If that's the case, I think I would go for the smaller rug.

Yes, it is rough on the feet. My 10 yr old son complained! I don't think I would put one in a room where you might sit or lie on the floor. I've heard that it softens over time. Will be interesting to see if that happens. Right now I almost always have socks on, but once it warms up I will be barefoot most of the time. I am wondering if I will hate it then. Hope not, because I love the way it looks. At first, my powder room door would drag. But, it was not sitting totally flat due to being rolled up during shipping. Now, it's flat and the door is fine. But, I suspect if your door is real low, it might not work.

I like the first Caribbean, but really love the second. Would you consider using the braided rug in the entry, and getting the Caribbean for the LR? The braided rug seems to fight with the furniture arrangement. It feels like a narrow strip running down the middle of the furniture, rather than encompassing all the pieces in the central space of the room. Perhaps the Carribean could be sized so that the rug could turn the other way in the LR, and both the chairs would sit on it, the trunk opposite, and the large cabinet would be connected with it as well. I think all the wood furniture in there could also use the interest of the colors in the rug, whereas the entry is just a pass-through and perhaps needs less pattern and interest. Or use the braided rug in the office, where it would seem a perfect fit turned the other way. Then use the Caribbean in the LR, and get a simple sisal with a solid blue trim for the entry hall. You have a very pretty home, cheery and welcoming.

If you want to cover quite a bit of the foyer, you could do as large as an 8x10’. Minimally, no smaller than a 5x7’ so you have a generous landing spot for guests.

LOL, Jill....hubby said practically the same thing about where each rug would fall with the interior french doors.

2-1 so far?

Here are 2 "spice"-colored rugs I've seen in person. Well, this 1st one from Home Depot had a small sample of it, but here it is from their website (don't like the online image, though):

I can't tell which size I would like from the tape. I like the tjmax rug--I would just buy it and try it out. You can return it if it doesn't work.

I really like your floors.

I kind of like the idea of a round rug too.

Scroll 1/4 down and this lady has a round rug in hers. The set up is similar.

Loved that blog. Not only is it a round rug, it looks like the "spice" color I'm leaning towards.

At my last house, I had a 6' octagonal rug, and I loved that shape--at least there. It was eggplant to match my front door color; hubby wanted to put it out here, too, but it's rubbery on the back, and I was worried about it harming the new wood floors.
