Kitchen Remodel Update - Wall Paint Finished with Pics!
Comments (14)Thanks so much everyone for all the nice comments! My primary goals in doing the kitchen remodel were to update the look, improve functionality and to warm up the color scheme using vibrant earth tones for a slightly Tuscan feel. I have been very happy with the transformation. Its amazing how some paint and granite can make such a difference. I had to look up my old notes to find the names of several of our materials used but here is the short list as requested: My Granite is called EL DORADO and is from Brazil. My Backsplash tile is a Mexican Travertine 3x6 Subway called DESERT CREAM IMPERIAL from Florida Tile Kitchen Sink is a Blanco 1-3/4 Anthracite Silgranite Kitchen Faucet is the Lady Grohe Cooktop is the Thermador 30 inch Induction with the Popup Vent system Double Ovens are the 27 inch Kitchenaid Architect Series II Microwave is the GE Profile model PVM2070DM1BB Beverage Center is the MARVEL 15 inch BARM-BB-G with the all black framed glass door Original 20 year old dark cherry cabinetry custom made by Dutch Mills in Goshen Indiana. Under cabinet lighting is Seagull Ambiance Xenon Low Voltage Linear Lighting on dimmers. Kitchen window shades are Graber brand light filtering pleated shades, Lucia model and the color is Elderberry 4050 We used all BEHR paints but some of the colors were custom mixed. The yellow kitchen walls and soffits were a Restoration Hardware color called SAFFRON which we had color matched in the BEHR paint The burgundy accent color used on the kitchen windows and on the powder room walls was BEHRs CURRANT JAM The Sunroom walls were BEHRs WHISPERING PINE The Sunroom Ceiling was a Restoration Hardware color BAY LAUREL that we color matched in BEHR Hallway to laundry was BEHRs CUP OF COCOA Laundry room walls were BEHRs AUTUMN GOLD Regarding the questions about removing the light box over the island. My neighbor did most the remodel work for me. He is a licensed electrician and just removed the wood box frame and fluorescent fixtures. We luckily had an intact drywall ceiling under the light box so it just involved installing new pendant and recessed can lights in the ceiling by repositioning the original wiring from the light box and installing the new fixtures. There was minimal drywall patching required. We upgraded to dimmer switches also....See MoreWow! I'm at the end..here are some before/after shots...
Comments (33)Hey!! Just returned from a long day...passed the electrical inspection! Just have my final on Friday and we'll be done! I tried to get some additional pictures but it's hard to take pictures at some angles...here are some additional shots... Downstairs Guest bath... After...the fabric on the toilet top will be a valance on my one window in here...blends with the shower curtain which are actually drapes..I'm going to put a waffle weave with cotton ball tassles in natural on a rod behind these to hid the grey tile on the tub... My master bathroom had the same vanity/flooring/toilet as the previous bathroom..they used all those in all 3 baths...so I bought a new vanity very cheap and painted it and tiled the floor...I've got to go buy some brushed nickel or pewter knobs...just haven't found any I like yet... I only used Jamesboro Gold in the kitchen and great room...Norwich Brown was my second choice... Alicia...I really wanted a kitchen that looked a little rustic and I love maple cabinetry but didn't like the look of wood floors against wood stained cabinets..they just seem to clash unless they're much different in color...so I simply used the same stain on my maple as I used on the white oak floors...it may not really "match" but they blend well and I think you'd enjoy the look of throwing another color in whether your cabinets are painted or stained..and using the opposite above your range...there are several kitchens in the remodel section that show some beautiful colors/stains mixed..they look amazing!! It would definitely be much better than redoing them all...I think you'd love the look! On the master bath...I painted those cabinets..a'la igloochic's instructions! :) It was very easy! I'm not too sold on the cabinet color, while I like it on it's own I just don't think it pops like I'd thought it would...but for a quart of paint and time, it's soo much better than the orange stained looking option that I had! :) The floor tiles were $9/sq foot tile...but I got them for .75 cents per sq. foot! :) Someone had returned them...and it worked great! :) I hope in 5-10 years to do a complete remodel on the bathroom so I didn't want to do anything more than a quick update... Here's a pic of the tile in the new bathroom that I put in the finished attic space...I'm going with a beach theme.. I only have to paint the walls in this room and the adjacent toilet/vanity room...hmmm..need to ask for some help! :) Tara...See Morepainting update - before and after pictures (pic heavy)
Comments (26)Clyft, yes, the Smoky Mountain is on the fireplace wall, as well as through the living room, the foyer, the upstairs hall, and the kitchen. It really does well with the natural woodwork and the neutral-with-green-undertones carpet that we had to work with. When we first sampled it I was afraid it looked rather stodgy and dated, but once it was on the walls it has enough of a grayed-out cast to it to look contemporary. In some lights it looks much more blue, and in some it looks green. Meghnjosh, good luck with your blues! I actually didn't want to go with blue, but this was definitely the choice that worked the best with the other requirements we were working around. And it has enough gray and green in it that it works for me. The Wedgewood Gray that we did in the mudroom (no pictures) is too blue for me; we'll be changing that when we have time. At least it is still better than the dingy white it was before!...See MoreLocal counties on edge after State Troopers shot
Comments (6)The suspected shooter lives in Monroe County in northeastern PA. The troopers were shot at the Blooming Grove headquarters in Pike County. There are counties in the immediate area - Pike, Wayne and Monroe. We're at our vacation home in Pike County and the police have urged homeowners to keep doors and windows locked and turn on alarms if they have them. We turned our alarm on last night and I still slept fitfully. Here is a link that might be useful: update...See MoreMy3dogs ME zone 5A
