ugly bathroom needs help
Comments (30)Thank you everyone :) Painting the walls AND ceiling seems to make the room look a little taller (or maybe that's just wishful thinking). The unpainted beadboard was just sucking all the light out of the room. This is now a pretty and live able room. stinky gardener, Thank you. I will check out those stores next time I'm in town. Some nice fat, fluffy towels are definitely needed. Once I have those, and make the window treatment and cushion cover, it will all be tied together. jenangelcat, the photos you posted really gave me some inspiration. Thanks gmp3, Thank you. The electrical will get hidden when we redo the entire room one day. I get a "kick" out of working with a small budget, and reusing what I can. I even trimmed out the window with old molding from a door frame (it was broken but there was plenty there for the window)....See MoreUgly, old second bathroom needs help
Comments (16)How much diy can you do? I would say that the tub and toilet have to stay (also I would want the matching pink sink so I would troll CL to find one) I would remove the tile myself. I would pay to have someone come in and prep the walls for re-tiling...but I would diy the tile. You can too, if you're willing to do your homework and practice...I think home depot does a workshop and study youtube vids. If you are not sure...then just don't. I know how to paint. You do too. So the trim would be white for me. I would probably paper because I know how to do that, too... I would change the lights...that's actually easy to do. So cost, for me, would be sink (I would want a retro looking vanity), wallpaper, paint, plumber, light... Depending on how things are going, I might consider tiling the floor, but that is a larger cost because the toilet has to come out (yes, you can do that and you can put it back) I'm ancient and stuff isn't so easy for me, so I would def. need help with some stuff... If you're not into doing all this, then wait and save a bit more. Sadly, bathrooms aren't the kind of places where you can do stuff in stages... So...where are you in all this? Hands on? ETA: the above probably won't even be as much as 6....you're kind of in middle ground there...making a decision even more difficult......See Morebathroom paint color help, ugly tile
Comments (1)I like the creamy/off white tiles - way more than I like stark white. I think both your "Pixel White" & green paints tend toward cool, and they're both drawing attention to the warmer tile & highlighting the contrast. I'd re-paint the entire bathroom. If you can find a warm green, maybe a light olive and/or an off-white warm paint, the tiles will stand out less and look like they fit in. I have creamy tile in my kitchen, with two paint colors - an olive-y green and a rusty color. Here are a couple photos:...See MoreThe most unnecessarily large and ugly bathroom needs help
Comments (6)I think with the right prep, primer and paint you can do a lot with the space. The floor looks like a fairly pink beige to me, so you might try whites like Benjamin Moore Maritime White or Muslin which would be similar in undertone. Also paint the vanity cabinet all one color if you can. I've also seen DIYs of people painting their sinks. Worth researching at least!...See Morewritersblock (9b/10a)
