ugly bathroom needs help
Comments (30)Thank you everyone :) Painting the walls AND ceiling seems to make the room look a little taller (or maybe that's just wishful thinking). The unpainted beadboard was just sucking all the light out of the room. This is now a pretty and live able room. stinky gardener, Thank you. I will check out those stores next time I'm in town. Some nice fat, fluffy towels are definitely needed. Once I have those, and make the window treatment and cushion cover, it will all be tied together. jenangelcat, the photos you posted really gave me some inspiration. Thanks gmp3, Thank you. The electrical will get hidden when we redo the entire room one day. I get a "kick" out of working with a small budget, and reusing what I can. I even trimmed out the window with old molding from a door frame (it was broken but there was plenty there for the window)....See MoreHelp with ugly apartment bathroom!
Comments (29)well as it's a rental it should be all cleared with the landlord and first on that list would be trying to switch that vanity you need to reinstall faucet and reconnect the plumbing. maybe the OP can do it, but as a landlord-I'd want a licensed plumber there. just in case. so add the cost of him coming and doing it, to whatever new vanity you think about.. also as much as I like mirrors..and mirrors with shelves..there's a very limited storage there..unless there are additional corners we don't see. Not everything I'd put over the toilet too. A medicine cabinet might be more appropriate, functionally speaking. But. If you want a cool modern very streamlined, very well made mirror with shelf..I know one. I had it! Had to return it unfortunately-the lighting plan changed..But that was a great mirror. Wasn't really cheap less put it this way. But at least the price reflected the quality.. And maybe something like this you can take with you after..would work in a hallway too for example. A versatile thing. So if you're interested let me know..I'll find the link for you....See MoreWaaah! I'm building an ugly bathroom and I need quirky!
Comments (180)I'm all about quirky, but there's a fine line between quirky and crazy cat lady. You want it to look cheerful but still dignified. "More color and pattern" does not equal quirky. It equals Sanford & Son if you're not careful. I have a craptastic 50s bathroom that we're redoing on the cheap and I like a playful aesthetic too (think Wes Anderson's "The Life Aquatic" in bathroom form), but I'm being cautious about ensuring some of the basic finishes (flooring, wall tile, vanity) match and are neutral in shape and color. I can go nuts with wallpaper (GREAT idea), paint, grout, artwork and linens...but the floor and any other tile in the room are gonna be a "basic bitch" so we can sell the place someday. I'm trying to get a sense of what you're working with, here. Just so it's clear: you're doing a white barn door, a plain white vinyl pop-in shower/tub, vinyl marble-esque ("mar-belle" as my mother calls it) tile (square or rectangle? what size?), and drywall on the walls? No wall tile, etc. What kind/size/color style vanity do you have and are you also putting in lighting or other fixtures? If you have a barn door and are innately gravitating to cows and buffalo check wallpaper (which you appear to be doing), you're a Joanna Gaines Farmhouse Person whether you like it or not. Embrace it, it still works and the look is everywhere and therefore affordable. Black and white is an excellent idea. Do whitewashed barnwood (removeable) wallpaper to match your barn door. Add a pop of Russian Red or teal paint and you're good to go. I think the barn door is gonna define the space more than anything, and the whole Mexican/Talavera tile thing is just gonna look bizarre (...and I love talavera...)....See MoreUgly bathroom needs major help!
Comments (2)what's the budget? you'll want two sinks, no? a vanity that long will need to be custom made. you could do two 48" vanities and do a drop down countertop for a makeup spot in the middle. something like this If you don't need that, then find a longer vanity or do something like these if you don't want white, pick a darker tone from the tile, or even a wood vanity like this floating one below, (if you want sconces, you'll have to get the wall wired for them. not a big deal, you'll just need to know where the sinks and mirror are placed) go to a tile store and find a nice porcelain tile that matches you show tile. take extra tile w/you if you have it. I'd do white vanities if you want to brighten up the space. you could find a nice granite or quartz countertop that works w/your tile. sand and prime the linen cabinet and use BM Advance paint. do a contrasting color. new hardware. get two lighting fixtures for over each sink....See MoreUser
