Is there a Android forum you could go to and see if others are complaining? I have an Iphone and discovered a lot of info on their user forums regarding data usage. I switch my phone to wifi at home. I shut off cellular. I backup only using wifi. Shutting off running apps is important, they use data all day if they are running. I'm sure there must be forums for your phone. You get tons of info from others who had the same problems. Jane

it is taking a big risk, the one safe way she could use it would be by using a linux live cd in the cd drive and boot the laptop from that, then she would be accessing the net via the linux cd and not her hard drive so her hard drive and all info on it would be untouched. There is no need to install anything simply one of the free versions of linux that has the live cd would work, just choose to boot from the cd and she is good to go, she would be using the firefox browser that is on the live cd. Very much like sandboxing. the linux live cd can be downloaded as an iso and burned as such to CD or DVD and used so it is free. Another quick way to get one of the cd's is any magazine store that sells linux magazines will usually have a free cd included in them and most of the time it is one of the live cd versions of linux like ubuntu or mint etc, there are many distros. I always have a linux live cd with me when I travel, many banks are now recommending this method for transactions online to banking sites

Katy, Sure hope you enjoy that new Wireless Keyboard/Mouse. What Brand did you buy? I've always liked the Logitech Line the best. I started with the original Logitech 3 Button Wireless Mouse (still have it). My first Wireless Keyboard (not sure of the brand name) was Infrared and it was horrible, had to have it pointing towards the receiver at all times. I have the MX5500 Combo hooked up to my Desktop Computer right now, best Logitech has ever made (it's Bluetooth and has a great range)(very pricey, think it cost me around $170)! Once you've tried Wireless Keyboard/Mouse Combos you'll never go back! BTW, Windows 10 Updates are nothing to worry about. They've been coming for many, many years and will continue to come. I've had a couple minor problems, but really nothing to get excited about. I have Windows 10 on 5 Laptops, 1 Desktop and 1 Tablet, all running great! It's good that Microsoft is staying on top of any problems! When there are just so many different varieties of computers out there with so many different components, you really just have to wonder how they don't have more problems then they do? You've really got to give them credit! Since you're going to Buy a New All-In-One Desktop, I'd just go ahead and get it with Windows 10 Preinstalled! I'm sure there won't be any problems with a New Computer w/Windows 10. Most of the problems are with Older Computers that are being Upgraded to Windows 10 and the older software that's already installed.

yes, youve gotten some good advice here, but i will add my two cents as well. you may have a modem, which does not give off a wifi signal, or you may already have a router, which gives off a wifi signal. if its a router and your isp gave it to you, then check out how to set it up to give a signal, or it may be already. if you have a modem that doesnt give a signal, you will have to get a router and attach it to the modem. theres a plug in on modems, LAN ports, a sort of phone cord looking thing, only bigger and burlier. theres a special, but common, cord that will fit into that plug in on the modem. then you could try to pick up a cheap router....connect them with the "ethernet cord" and should be good to go, with hopefully not too much fuss to set the signal name and security you want. heres some small simple ones that i have sort of had my eye on for a while --->> mini router on amazon another mini router --> http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00E98O7GC for a full blown real router, i would recommend this one, i have one and love it ---> asus rt - n12 these are all on the low end of prices for routers, most are more like 30-60...just make sure it has the "ethernet port", the phone like plug in spot for the cable. most of them do, but some of these mini ones are just "repeaters" or "access points" and so grab a wifi signal and repeat it, no ethernet cable. but all standard routers have the ethernet plug in. plus you will need the cable. also the quickest, easiest way to go, especially if its not a long visit, is to just unplug the ethernet cable from your computer, and let her plug it into her laptop. unless she has like...a tablet or something, ethernet plug ins are part of standard laptops.
