Can I put pickle juice in my compost?
Comments (13)Wow!! Almost fell off my chair when I saw all the responses. Gee Willakers! Thanks everybody. I like the idea of killing something in my yard I don't like. I think Wisteria would be good dead. In NC it is very invasive and has taken over my property. So I'll experiment and see what happens. Don't want to kill any critters. My other thought is too put some baking soda in the drain and pour the vinegar juice over it. But I'm thinking the vinegar is probably too diluted to clean my drain. I'll try a little and see what happens. Well, what can I say? Thanks again. You made my day. Too fun, lindarose...See MorePickle juice?
Comments (18)Teresa, I have a recipe I have had for many years that I remember using several times, but not in a long time. 1 quart Dill pickles, drained and sliced in 1/4 in. slices Add 2 onions, sliced & separated into rings. Put in large bowl and add: 2 C. sugar 1 T. vinegar 1 1/2 T. whole mustard seed 1 teas. celery seed Stir gently W/wooden spoon. Let set at room temperature until sugar dissolves. Pack in jar and refrigerate 4 days. I'm assuming that meant set for 4 days before using, but as I said, it's been a long time. I think you could add any number of veggies to that. Sweet peppers, (any color), cauliflower, carrots (I'd steam first) etc. I don't see why your sweet pickle juice wouldn't work. I'll be interested to hear what you wind up doing. jude...See MoreVitamin D and pickled beet juice?
Comments (6)but they won't be going to landfill. More and more for me this determines what gets added to the compost bins ie if in doubt I throw it in. (But I think I will use the pickling juice elsewhere...dump it in the toilet and let it soak for a few hours so it can do its cleaning thing)....See MorePickle juice chicken questions
Comments (4)Report: I just used combined juice from a few different pickle jars I'd emptied, hot, dill and sweet. Marinated for 7-8 hrs. Out of the brine, dripped over it a little not to make a mess, into mostly AP flour with some small panko and S&P, from there into the frying pan with goose fat. I wanted to use it up. :) I didn't notice any particular flavor or texture difference from using oil, but it did spatter more. Even though it had solidified on top of the container, there was probably some juice caught in it. I have a big old spatter shield which I almost never use, but it was extremely helpful. :) The coating was delicious and very pickle forward, though it didn't stick well where the tongs hit it. The chicken tasted like chicken. Partway through dinner, I thought the pickleness got old. I think I'd od this for appetizers (excluding the goose fat), because one coatingful bite at a time was really good. It was a whole thigh, with pickle coating in every bite, that got old. I wanted to try it since people had been discussing it. It was an excellent experiment. Thanks for the help....See Moreaok27502
