12ft ceilings...how tall should the built-in shelving go up?
Comments (12)If this is really being a built- in and all new I would do drawers on the lower not cabinets. Can be one piece front with hidden drawers inside. Why haven't they given you a 3D rendering? Hope you are all on the same page for look and finish of cabinetry. I would only go to 10 at the max. Here is a photo/visual to help (not really your ceiling type but very talk shelving)... once you have all those shelves you need to fill them... it really depends on how much you want to display, have visual "stuff" on that wall. I'm assuming tv is on the left, are those the connections for wires? Also, to keep in mind the sides are not symmetrical, just for keeping display items balanced. The more shelving, the more visual "stuff" to deal with. Looks like a beautiful space, it will be lovely when finished! Congratulations on your new home! Good luck!...See MoreAre built-in plant shelves weight-bearing
Comments (7)Since you can probably only be sure that the front and back edges of the ledge are supported by framing, I'd only trust putting any weight on it if I had at least a 4' wide piece of 3/4" plywood, spanning the full front-to-back depth of the ledge, to kneel on....See MoreGaps between built in shelves and wall
Comments (5)It wasn't his cabinet maker, we hired him, but he and his finish carpenter thought about adding mdf on the back and sides of the space to cover the gaps and then painting it the color of our walls. It's an idea but we know that it's going to end up being around $1000. And with the cost of building a house in these times, ugh, we just don't want to pay that. We thought about shiplap but it's a Prairie Modern house and it just doesn't fit....See MoreWhat To Put On Top of Built In Shelves
