I have very large windows and have hung drapery just to frame the window. Used a decorative rod (make sure you get one long enough) which has a middle support. I don't think it will look odd. Do you really need to keep the mini blinds for privacy? I think that they along with not enough material on either end, may be giving the long feeling between the drapes. ` Being white, long thin slats, and drapes so much darker? I think if you want blinds for that window, it may be better to go with a bigger slat blind. JCP often run sales on all of their window treatments. Perhaps you could use 3 sets, I think there are 3 windows comprised into that larger window over the sofa? Mixing holiday decs - not a fan, but if it makes you happy, I think you should do it seeing as it is your home. Also, do think your green is too minty (could be my monitor?). If you want retro, the avacado color posted is a great option. While I hate to paint, it is said it is the easiest thing to change (next to your mind, lol). I like your DR, but I would choose one of either the mad hatter mirror or the metal piece. Seems like they are competing and neither are winning when hung together. Oh, and can you send me the green glass piece on your coffee table, lol. Love it.

I think it would be fine to change the sand color to Olive Branch. If it's too much, it might be nice to select a lighter, color and consider making the paneling area above the fireplace this color. I agree the scale of the pictures is too small. I think it would be nice to anchor the dining area with a large painting. The bigger the better to fill some wall space. Right now, the furniture seems to be arbitrarily placed throughout the room so I think you should rethink the floor plan. I would place the sofas on either side of the fireplace. I would move the tv to the small wall and hope that it sits below the wall and doesn't stick out. Right now, it's fighting the natural focal point of the fireplace. Now, the concept of Spanish/ Mediterranean. When you continue this space, think heavy, think furniture. Contrast is important in this style so consider black wrought iron details, perhaps a wrought iron chandelier for over the dining table and some sconces for the living area. It might be nice to consider tapestries for the area. When I suggested a lighter color earlier, it might be appropriate to think a tan or an orangish hue that is found throughout this style.

Consider switching to this arrangement with a 3-seater sofa and 4 swivel chairs. Instead of the coffee table use either an upholstered hassock or a coffee table that stores stools underneath. Smaller scale pieces will be the key to squeezing in more people. Remember people on a sofa will tend to leave an empty seat between them so they can turn to each other for conversation. You may have space for a sofa table and stools behind the sofa, or you could find wall space for a bench that you could pull into the conversational grouping when needed.

I love your trim and I hope you'll keep it stained. Your beautiful home has a lot of character. These are a few suggestions. Take them or leave them since ultimately it's your home! Replace the traditional / fussy drapes with something simple. Replace the dining room chairs with something with clean, simple lines. Is there any chance your TV could fit inside of one of the built-ins? If you removed the bottom shelf, the TV would be much less obtrusive tucked in there. Then you could put a nice piece of framed art above the fireplace. Remove all of the small decorative items from the surfaces: buffet, fireplace mantle, shelves. Replace with fewer more impactful items. Remove one of the cabinets from the dining room. Right now you have three and they seem to be differing styles. I'd be inclined to remove the corner one since it seems to coordinate less well with the other items. Replace the slipcovered sofa with something new and more tailored.
