How did you decide b/w a range & a cooktop w/ wall oven(s)?
Comments (41)What do you people cook in your ovens? Bowling balls? Heh heh. You must be pulling out 30lb turkeys daily if the weight of your pans is that huge of a concern. I only cook turkeys once a year (for which my family thanks me) and only on the big green egg, so we decided on a range with two ovens and a warming cabinet because of the space we gained as well as the look. Our ovens have drawers below them so they aren't on the floor and when I do use them I am able to safely open and check the food without being in danger of burning my nose. We had wall ovens in the old house and hated them, as well as the gas cook top, which IMO is just a horrific waste of space. Now in our new house we have that same crappy set up and will be yanking it out as soon as possible. But we will still only cook turkeys rarely. As a pure ergonomics issue though, it is always better to lift up verses lift from chest level so for me....I just don't get why people put the stove up on the wall. Much like the drawer microwave...it just feels unsafe. And ummm they are ugly. Ok IMO but really, I hate big electronics and plastic in the middle of a wall. (I feel the same way about big screen tvs)....See MoreMicrowave location in kitchen remodel..undercounter or in pantry?
Comments (9)Next to the fridge is a great idea. It's right handy if you want to melt some butter, take the chill off some berries, heat up a quick snack, etc. I wouldn't worry about the handles. They're different appliances with different functions so should look different. As you said, it's only an issue if they're right next to each other. I don't think there's any danger to having a microwave in a pantry unless it's a cabinet style pantry and you shut the door on it while it's working. OTOH, sometimes things coming out of a microwave are hotter than they seem at first, so having a good landing space to set it down quickly is a must, and you might not have that between the pantry and destination....See MoreHelp: Replacing double oven with oven microwave combo
Comments (10)My daughter did what you are planning on doing. I’m not sure her gap was exactly the same size and her ovens were only 24” wide. Since she did not want to remodel her whole kitchen, she stuck with 24” wide replacements. She put the oven on the bottom and used a speed oven/microwave on top. Like hers your microwave will need a shelf to support it. She had a carpenter put in a shelf and a filler piece between the lower oven and the upper. She also needed an electrician to put in an outlet for the microwave/speed oven. Her over the cooktop microwave was replaced with a vent hood Good luck with your project....See MoreGourmet Kitchen Double Oven on wall or Single oven w/ microwave
Comments (15)We did option 1 and I don't regret it at all. We have a small countertop microwave that is in a regular upper cabinet with a smaller door - picture below which is much easier than explaining! (Just avert your eyes from any unfinished trim bits you see!) This is the first time I've ever had double ovens and I am still surprised at how often I use them - it's so much easier to plan meals that have two different oven temp needs. It feels positively luxurious to be able to have several different things going in the oven at once! Also--before we renovated, our kitchen had a fancy Kitchenaid combination convection microwave/oven like in your option 4. We had so much trouble out of that thing. The microwave had to be repaired a couple times, and the oven electrics would freak out and stop working every single holiday we hosted! We kept them both limping along, but since they were attached, we would have had to replace both appliances if one of them totally broke....See Morelefty47
